Solomon Thomas--Stanford

On another side note, Jets strategy of always taking BPA has delivered them a solid defensive line but look at their QB's over the past 5 years. A combo of Geno Smith & Ryan Fitzpatrick. Brian Hoyer is better then the 2 of those guys put together.

Yea with Rex Ryan as their coach who specializes on defense, we have shanny the qb guru

You can put that there all you want doesn't change the fact that Tony McDaniel is no star. It's not 1994 anymore Carroll's made decades of adjustments. Lynch and Bowser as Leo/ Sam just will not cut it so be prepared for more severe overhauls.

So why can't we make adjustments? Why do we have to be fine with mcdainel type player? You don't think Carroll wouldn't love to have a player with the talent level of Solomon...if you don't the I'm calling BS.

Everyone trying to fit players into the mold of what other coaches do in this scheme...you talk to Saleh? He tell ya exactly what we're looking for? I'd bet money he'd love to have the nations top run stopper and top 6 pass rusher. He can play all over that line and play the edge in certain packages, he's a 3 down starter day one.

Also you have no idea if that will or won't cut it...you bring up stats about AA in 2015, but lynch was the 8th overall most productive pass rusher in 2015.

I like Soloman Thomas. But drafting 3 linemen in 3 years is not the way to build a team

Actually pretty good.

Lions have had 2 playoff appearances the last 5 years and also 1 win away from a .500 record in 2 years also. BECAUSE THEY HAD A QB! Stafford!

The Jets? let's not go there.. lol

The jets have two pro bowlers at DE what's wrong with that? The lions over drafted WRs and then ended up with a top 5 all time WR.

The panthers are constantly drafting DL how's that defense doing?

You are over valuing Mike Williams. He's not worthy of the 2nd pick in the draft.

The last 5 drafts have seen 3 WR's go top 5. Sammy Watkins, Justin Blackmon and Amari Cooper. Amari is light years ahead of Mike Williams, Blackmon was a bust and Watkins not far behind him.

Some of you are talking like our front 7 was just fine last year....
And Thomas is still considered to have a lot of room to develop.

It's not often that you get to hear a player give his opinion on prospects he thinks teams should take in the NFL draft, but Kyle Long couldn't help himself on Monday night, taking to Twitter to give his opinion on one of his favorites in the 2017 NFL Draft.

I try not to watch a ton of college film with guys coming out but the most NFL ready looking dudes is Sol Thomas he's has twitch +GM strength

Long is a big fan of Stanford defensive lineman Solomon Thomas, who is starting to appear more and more at the top of the draft in expert mocks.

At 6-foot-3, 273 pounds, Thomas has the build and skill set to lineup almost anywhere up and down the line of scrimmage.

TIL that Armstead+Buckner+Blair+Mitchell is one of the top DL combo's in the NFL.

Because the needs of the d aren't changing. We're still going to need 2 very good edge rushers, lb's and coverage. At some point you have to upgrade other areas too because a d line on it's own won't win it all. I don't know what Carroll would do with the #2 pick I do know he has Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman, Cliff Avril and Bobby Wagner. A complete d. If he had Buckner would he still value another interior presence? That's speculation on either end all I can tell you is so far he's left that spot as meat and potatoes.

There is really no one way to build a team but there are guidelines which the more you get right the better your chances of winning are.

1. Elite QB. So important in today's game. This guy alone will get you 5 wins if you surround him with even mediocre talent.

2. Top flight defense.

Well #2 doesn't happen with out the ability to stop the run and rush the passer up front. 4-3 defense means the front is there most of the magic happens.

Drafting 3 linemen in 3 years may not be ideal but much worse than that is ignoring a top tier talent who fits perfectly with what your team is trying to do because you drafted 2 linemen in the 2 years prior while running a different scheme with a different coaching staff and one of them hasn't shown to be worth his draft selection.

Mike Williams isn't Calvin Johnson, he's not Julio Jones. He's a big body who can go up and get the ball. I'd love to have him but at the end of the day hell yes I'd rather have Solomon Thomas and Zay Jones if that's the option. Would not surprise me at all to see him have a better career than Williams.

Plus once again what WR has made that much of an impact on his team and helped them win a SB? Hell how many top 2 WRs have been worth the pick?

There is no way in hell Williams is BPA. If you're drafting him there it's purely a need pick and that's a perfect way to wind up with a crap roster.

Pretty sure a week ago you were in here saying Thomas is BPA. What changed?

Just to remind some of you...When AA went down and Dorsey came back we were on pace to give up more rushing yards in a 16 game season than ANY team in NFL HISTORY.

AA gets a bad rap. He's been hurt, give the guy a chance to comeback and compete.

AA gets a chance to compete but going into his 3rd season you don't count on him.

We just signed Earl Mitchell though. We're good.

Why not? It's not like he's been a bust when he plays.
