Every action I've seen so far from the 49ers this offseason tells me that they aren't particularly interested in competing in 2016. So why not really lean into that? I'd focus on getting the core in place, while giving some of the young 49ers a chance to compete and get playing time in 2016. A few guiding principles: Get a young QB in place – It takes quarterbacks a few years to develop, and getting a good young QB in place can help attract future talent (see Raiders). Build from the inside out – Start in the trenches, and build outwardly. Let the kids play – Some of our recent high picks need a chance to prove themselves. In particular, we may have some talent at the WR (i.e. Smelter/Ellington) and OLB (i.e. Eli/Tank) positions, and we need to see what we have before replacing them. Here we go: Additional signings No one! Trade Kaepernick + 2016 5th rounder (own) + 2016 6th rounder (Broncos) to Broncos for 2016 2nd rounder + Ryan Clady Clady becomes insurance in case Davis doesn't come back. The offense can't function without solid line play, so we need to patch that up to start the rebuilding process. Draft First round: own pick (No. 7) – Jared Goff QB He sits for a year behind Gabbert while learning the system. Second round: own pick (No. 37) – Jaylon Smith LB He can take a red-shirt year while we continue to lose, but is the exact type of presence this defense needs in the middle Second round: Broncos (No. 63) – Nick Martin C Experienced center who can compete with Kilgore for the starting position right away. Third round: own pick (No. 68) – Christian Westerman OG Big, strong, and athletic. Projects nicely in a ZBS, and can compete to start right away at RG Fourth round: own pick (No. 105) – Joe Haeg OT/OG Athletic LT prospect who needs a bit of time to improve his strength. Can understudy behind Staley, and contribute at LG. Fourth round: compensatory pick (No. 133) – Daniel Lasco RB Goff's college running back has the speed and receiving ability to thrive in Kelly's system. Fifth round: Cowboy's pick (No 142) – Hassan Ridgeway DE/DT Big, athletic fella with experience in the 5 technique Fifth round: compensatory pick (No. 174) – Matt Judon OLB/DE Small school guy with big production. Can compete with Eli and Tank to replace Brooks Sixth round: own pick (No 178) – D.J. Reader NT Quick big bodied nose prospect to groom behind Williams. Sixth round: compensatory pick (No. 211) – Kevin Hogan QB Extra depth behind Gabbert/Goff Sixth round: compensatory pick (No. 213) – Anthony Zettel DE Really good athlete who could fall. May take a few years, but has a future as a 5 technique

Why why why with the clady stuff?? He hasn't played or been good in three years? From everything I've see or read he wants to play LT and him not restructuring to play on a SB team leads me to believe he's not gonna play for less cash. Also it takes away from you letting the kids play concept...let brown play.

Love the draft picks outside of smith in the 2nd...I can't see another 2nd round pick go out the window especially another ACL player. Let him be someone else's project....we need DL help and I'd be bummed if we wait until the 5th to go after it.

I think it's a bit overkill with the OL picks as well.

Can't see taking Smith in the 2nd or that many OL in one draft. Just because the team isn't going all out in FA doesn't mean they won't want to draft players that can contribute right now. In the 2nd I'd much rather see Whitehair or Kelly.

I can't see a second rounder for Jaylon Smith. Baalke's track record with redshirts is terrible. We are not a loaded team like 3 years ago and can't take a chance on an injured player. Name a redshirt that produced for the Niners, I can't, maybe you can.

Another trade that Denver will never accept. Denver won't give up their 3rd round pick for Kaepernick straight up, but you have them giving up a 2nd round pick for Kaepernick and 2 late round picks which are not worth that much.

Other than that, I like the mock and the concept behind it. After missing on all the big free agents, I'm happy with the direction this team decided to take in free agency (tank for a high draft pick in 2017 and defer all our cap room). Depending on Jaylon Smith's injury, I would probably consider trading back from our 2nd round pick or up from our 3rd to try to get him (or taking him with our 3rd round pick if his injury is really severe).
