Word is the jets want a 2nd round pick for Wilkerson. Tampa bay is looking for a 3rd for Mike Glennon. I know Wilkerson would be hard to swallow along with a contract like Malik Jackson but it's not like we don't have the money. Wilkerson will outplay any 2nd rounder we draft and will give us a 2nd probowler on defense. He will also draw double teams freeing up Lynch and Armstead to make sacks. He would make our whole line better. I know Balke values picks over players but damn sometimes you got to take a risk. If Wilkerson was free agent more than likely he wouldn't sign with us. His contract could be paid for with the money we save on Kap and by cutting Brooks and pears. Where I'm from that makes our team better and might put a few more fans in the stands. For Glennon there's no way there getting a third. Kaps a more proven player and that's his value. If we offer Tampa a 4th and a conditional pick in 2017 we could have our starter or a solid backup. I say we make both deals extend Glennon for a year or 2 to prove his worth and give this franchise some hope. There's not 1 49ers fan outside of Balke that thinks Gabbertt can take us to the Super Bowl. QB is not his strong suit. His favorite QB in the Draft is Conner Cook does anyone want to spend the next 4 years waiting to see if an below average college QB can take us to a Super Bowl.

WTC? Mike Glennon is barely good enough to justify a roster spot, much less give up a 3rd-round pick.

The Bucc's coaching staff certainly saw him play when they benched him for a 35-year-old Josh McCown & decided to draft a QB #1 overall.

... And yes, I've seen him play (crappily).

Don't really think you did. He played good his rookie year even though he didn't start the whole season. When Tampa hired Lovie Smith he brought in McCown because he knew him better. As soon as they declared McCown the starter 6 teams called to try to trade Glennon. So them teams saw enough of him that they all wanted him. 29 TDs and 15 ints over 2 seasons for a rookie QB ain't bad for a team the sucked bad enough to get the number 1 pick. I understand it's been awhile and you probadly never saw the guy throw a pass but their will probadly be more teams interested in Glennon than their will be for Kapernick.

I think if you had actually watched him you'd realize he's pretty good. And in his infinite wisdom, the now unemployed Lovie Smith grabbed McCown but Glennon greatly outplayed him.

Plus a team that no longer needs a QB I'm assuming Houston offered up a 2nd rounder for him a month ago. I think both traded should be jumped on but we all know Balke has absolute confidence in his drafting ability and we aren't agreesive about acquiring players. Both them trades and 3 or 4 more pickups like Casey Hayward, Akiem Hicks. James Laurenitis could make this a bearable season. But Balke probadly thinks hey I can find a better player than Wilkerson and Glennon.

Well, it shouldn't be difficult to find a better player than Laurinaitis

I would like him for his veteran presence and he has some dog in him.

But if you can get Wilkerson for a 2nd you do that in a heartbeat. I am wondering if that's why Baalke is sticking to his guns on the compensation. Maybe he has his eye on a franchised player or two.

Funny thing about Glennons rookie stats for his first 16 games there almost identical to Winstons except for the rushing TDs. This guy is an upgrade over Gabbertt and way cheaper than Kapernick. We extend Glennons contract for 2 years until he shows us what he's got and we don't have to spend a high pick on a QB. If you watch his tape he's accurate, has a quick release. We all know Gabbertt is not taking us to a Super Bowl so we need to be aggressive and take some chances on someone that might. If we can sang him for a 4th and 5th in 2017 we need to pull the trigger. Timid teams don't win anything. We make these moves forward 40 million in cap space and front load Wilkersons contract. We then go hard at free agency next season and throw another good draft on top. Bringing in backup guards and 4 string Arabs are not going to get us there.

You say Gabbert will not be taking us to a Super Bowl. How do we know this? I would suggest until we see him perform behind a reasonable line, with reasonable receivers, reasonable coaching and playcalling and a reasonable running game we know nothing of the sort.

The Wilkerson trade isn't as out of reach as it seems.

If we trade Kap, we will not be keeping his salary- I think 16M/year

And with other guys who may not be here like Brooks - their salaries will be saved.

So, if we apply those salaries to compensating Wilkerson the financial bite won't be as severe.

AND so far we haven't spent any real money in FA.

He'll easily out-perform any rookie and free up draft options for the team.

I would trade Kap and a 3rd rounder for Wilk. Seams like a fair trade, everyone wins.

Yeah he played so well that zero teams aren't coming close to giving TB a 3rd for him (it's be reported that's what Tampa wants for him).
