Lol, we have Blaine Gabbert and Dylan Thompson. You need to give up this fantasy that having Kaepernick on the roster until March means we won't draft a QB. We aren't paying him $20 million a year to be a backup. He's gone whether we cut him or trade him and the combination of Gabbert and Thompson won't prevent us from looking at QB's in the draft or free agency. Gabbert is only signed for one more year too which makes QB a pretty obvious need.

Hello Blaine. Great game yesterday

Taking a QB in Round 1 is mostly a coin flip.

Round 2 you roll the dice.

Round 3 and beyond youre buying a lottery ticket.

Either you have a QB or you are continually trying to acquire one. I doubt that Jacksonville is still mad about Gabbert seeing the way that Bortles has been coming on for them.

And when you're done with Phoenix's QB thread, open his thread on overhauling the front office/coaching staff. I'd feel much better with and experienced football mind as President, a well rounded GM, and someone like Adam Gase as the coach.

Back on topic, I feel like the lottery odds to find a franchise QB are pretty slim under this current administration.

Seriously Blaine, stop trying to convince us that you're a top 5 QB in this league
If Baalke and Tomsula stick, they won't draft a QB early. I won't say that it won't happen, because there is a chance those guys get canned, then all bets are off. No team Gabbert has been on has drafted a QB while he was on their roster. Through 5 drafts so far. Coaches like him even if the peanut gallery wants to act superior.

Jags won same number of games through Gabbert's first year and a half (to the point he was injured) as they did with Bortles, and they had record injuries the two seasons Blaine was there. Their passer ratings were about the same at that point as well. So, basically they paid twice the draft chart value, and are paying twice the salary for Bortles instead of Gabbert with same results. Tony Boselli was on a radio show this weekend and they asked him who he'd pick between the two. He said Gabbert.

Drawing conclusions from irrelevant information. Obviously a team who has spent a moderately high 1st rounder on a QB will not wish to do it again too quickly. Although in due course they did. And we didn't draft a QB for the last couple of years because of Kaepernick not Gabbert. Harbaugh the QB whisperer didn't seem to want to draft qb's.

Blake Bortles? I know you were painstakingly careful with your wording, but the Jags dumped Blaine for a 6th rounder in 2014 because they liked WHOEVER they could get at #3 more than they liked Blaine. Obviously, he was off of their roster before the draft, but they dumped his contract before the new league year started, ecause they felt they wouldn't miss him, and because the certainty provided by their draft position ensured they'd LIKELY get the guy they wanted to replace him. That choice was made when Blaine was still on their roster.

Gahh, my previous post was responding to this.

BTW, talking down those who disagree with you rarely wins over hearts and minds.

This. Nobody is saying you have to draft QB round 1 no matter what. If the team feels the QB on the board when they're picking is a franchise QB and whatever weaknesses he may have they believe to be easily fixed then they should draft him unless they have a proven starter.

Now if they have a need at QB but the QB available to pick is graded way lower than other position players available then you don't draft him.

A lot of teams panic and try to appease the fanbase because nothing gets a fanbase more excited than adding a QB early in the draft when you have a need for one.
