I just rarely cheer non 49ers. I love Jerry Rice but I wasn't cheering for him or the Raiders win the SB. I'm just indifferent about it. Won't be mad or anything. It would be good for Smith.

Whatever the ranking this year crop of QB's coming out, particularly the top three, are much better than 2017 QB draft class.

Lynch virtually came out no where to become one of the top picks. So it will probably happen again.

I think you mean top 2 (Goff, Lynch) and it wouldn't surprise me if Watson is ranked higher than these guys next year. It feels like an average QB class to me. There's not an obvious #1 or #2 pick at the QB position like there has been in the past but there's a number of guys who could go the first 3 rounds.

b******t on Tebow and Manziel being better prospects. Disagree on Sanchez and I'm not sure who you're referencing with Edwards (Trent Edwards was a 3rd round pick). You left off Winston and RG3.

There were in 10 years a few better prospects than Goff.
Leinart, Vince Young, Brady Quinn, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, RGIII, Bradford, Stafford.
I dont agree that Cam Newton, Sanchez, Mariota or even Winston were better prospects than Goff.
Remenber that better prospect isn't the same that better pro QB

Brady Quinn was taken 22nd. Do you think that 22 players from the 2007 NFL draft were better than the top 2 prospects in the 2015 draft? GM's don't let the BPA fall that far, especially if it's a QB. And Quinn has done nothing in the NFL which helps confirm why he wasn't picked higher. Newton belongs in that list too. #1 pick and instantly turned around that franchise.
Newton's stats junior year at Auburn were ridiculous and he was ready to play from day 1 (he's taken a major step forward this year though). The guy has more physical tools than probably anyone to ever play the position and put up ridiculous stats junior year at Auburn. The only knock on him may have been his character (or his dad's character) but he's been clean since then so GM's may have been comfortable with him. Without the off field scandal, he'd be up there with Luck as a prospect.
Junior year at Auburn:
2854 yards, 10.2 Y/A, 66.1% completion, 30 TD's, 7 Int's, 182.0 passer rating, 1473 rushing yards, 20 rushing TD's.
And he did this in the SEC, has a huge arm, has better than prototypical size, is charismatic, and is a leader. Goff is not a better prospect than him and Leinart and Brady don't even come close.

A isolated good year in college cannot be more important that a 3 and 2 good year span.
Goff had a solid progression in his 3 year as a starter in college, so had QUiin and Leinart.
Newton didnt have that progression.
Doesn't matter where the player was taken in the draft because that always depend on team need
He was drafted high because athletic ability and raw potential. It worked out fine but its not an example of good prospect at all

Leinart never had a season like Newton's and he was surrounded by more talent in an easier conference. Newton wasn't picked first overall purely because of team need. That's one of the dumbest arguments I've ever heard. He had way more physical tools than either of those guys and put it together at Auburn with a far better season than either Leinart or Quinn had in college. Newton was a really good prospect coming out of college. One year is a negative, but when your one year is far superior to any year of the other prospects and you have way more physical tools, you're a good prospect.
Leinart and Quinn never came close to a 182 passer rating, never put up 4200 combined yards, and they sure as hell never had the arm or legs than Newton does. They weren't as good of prospects which is why Leinart fell to 10 and Quinn fell to 22 and why Newton has been successful and they have not. Newton's physical tools are more impressive than any QB to ever play the game and he put up one of the best seasons in college football history (behind RG3 statistically, but against better competition in an offense that wasn't as explosive). I've been a die hard Notre Dame fan since I was little, but it's crazy to me that you consider Quinn the better prospect because he started for 4 years.
And you do realize Matt Stafford only had one good season at Georgia and it wasn't anywhere close to the season Cam had at Auburn, right? But somehow Stafford ended up in your list of good players and Cam is not. It's a joke that you think he was drafted purely based on potential when he put together one of the best seasons ever and followed it up by completely turning around the Panthers as a rookie. The guy won the Heisman, carried his team to a national championship, and was rookie of the year (by far) breaking a ton of records for rookie QB's and you're saying he wasn't a good prospect and was drafted for potential. That's ignorant.
And of course it matters where people are drafted - most teams don't reach for need. If a player goes higher than "experts" predict, that typically means they misevaluated the player or the league's interest in the player.

A QB might be the best talent overall of the draft if the first 3 teams picking in the draft have a franchise QB, they will not draft a QB.The QB will sure fall to a team who had the need.
Cam Newton was drafted 1st overall because Panthers did not have a franchise QB and were willing to take the risk on a project(Cam Newton was a project comming out).
Like I said before taht paid off but that doesnt mean that Cam Newton was a better prospect than Leinart and Vince Young.
Remember Cam Newton had some off the field red flags about suspect for receiving money from agent

I raised that issue about off field issues which was the only thing that held him back, bu I imagine teams were comfortable after doing due diligence given he was drafted #1 overall and has not had issues since then.
And if the best player in the draft is a QB, 9 times out of 10, they will be drafted first overall even if the first 3 teams don't need a QB. There's this thing called a trade and franchise QB's are extremely valuable. The only way this wouldn't happen is if there is another non-QB who is considered as good a prospect, fits a major need for the team picking 1st, and they can't trade back a few spots and expect to get them. Every time someone like Andrew Luck comes out, they're going 1st overall whether to the team picking first or the team that offers the best package to trade up.
Newton hadn't reached his full potential when drafted but he was not a project. He was a much better player than Leinart coming out as he showed in his last year of college and first year in the pros (and every year since then). I don't know what you don't get about the fact that he came into the league as an average NFL starter and turned that team around. That doesn't scream project to me. The Panthers didn't reach for need in that draft. The only reason Newton wasn't the consensus 1st overall pick was the off field issues and they did due diligence.

My point was I don't like drafting qb's in the first unless they really seem like a sure thing... and Goff is iffy imo. My point is also. I doubt he is even the bpa at 5 or 6. Smith, treadwell, and tunsil are way more sure things than goff

Agreed. And imo goff may be 10-15 in bpa
