That's what they said about Justin Smith.

And Tank Carradine

This. Although I think Bosa is more like a Jared Allen type.

If they were able to land Bosa I would be all for switching to a 4-3.

Did Justin Smith bust his ACL coming out of college?

No, but that want the topic either. Tank = 4-3.

Smith was a bust coming out. We talk highly about him now because he was a beast in the 3-4, but many people in Cincy considered him a bust and we happy to see him go.

I never heard that about Smith. He was always considered a good player. He led the Bengals in sacks 3 outta the 5 years with the team. 5th on their all time sack list and they franchised him in 2007. What team franchises a bust 6 years after they drafted him? When the Niners signed him it was considered a good signing that became great.

Dude was good in Cinci and the franchise tagged him in 2007 because of it, why would SF give him a 6 yr $45 million contract if he was bust?

He wasn't a bust but he wasn't what was expected of him with the Bengals.

? He broke Cinci's rookie sack record and was 2nd among rookies in the NFL, He also was their sack leader 3 out of the 4 years he was there lol.

Dude was a beast and continued in SF.

Was a 5th overall pick and wasn't a pro bowler or all pro in Cinci.

It's funny to me that a guy can make a pro bowl one year and now he's called a pro bowl player over and over again as if he's consistently played well enough to make the pro bowl. Not to mention all the guys who become pro bowlers after a majority of the starters refuse to play in the game.
Didn't mean to derail this thread with the Justin Smith comments. Whether you realize it or not, Justin was a disappointment in Cinny. He was a top-5 pick and averaged 6 sacks/yr in his 7ish years. He was a good player, nothing special.

He became a stud when he moved to the 3-4. He went from a guy who never won an award or went to a Pro Bowl to a perrenial All-Pro and DPOY candidate. Speaking in terms of schemes, it's hard to evaluate where guys will excel once they develop into a pro.

Yeah, I don't know. He looks like he could play anywhere on the line. I agree that he's probably best suited for the 4-3, but he could develop into a damn good 3-4 DE too. He's already seeing double teams and fairing well.

Thoughts on Buckner? He stood out more than AA last season IMO.
