Phx49ers 2016 Mock Draft V1.0

Just a rough guesstimate based on the teams needs and my current expectations for where players will wind up. Not accounting for comp picks in this mock draft. Round 1-Jaylon Smith-6'3", 230-ILB-Notre Dame. Pick Smith and plug him in as a starter at ILB for the next 10 years. Smith is versatile, athletic, able to cover a lot of ground fast, can drop back into coverage, is a reliable tackler and just an all-around excellent prospect. I think he's a natural fit for the 49ers and would bump Wilhoite back into reserve status from the get-go. Its tough to come up with an estimate for how many games that the 49ers will win and they could end up out of range for a guy like Smith, I'm expecting them to win 6-8 games so if they are on the lower end, they should be in good position to take him. With Lynch, Smith, Harold and Bowman, all of the sudden the defense would have a suddenly revamped, faster, more explosive group of linebackers. Round 2-Michael Thomas-6'3", 215-WR-Ohio State. If Boldin is indeed gone, the nephew of Keyshawn Johnson could be the ideal guy to replace him. Very tough, physical possession receiver that can help move the chains. Outstanding route runner that could be a dependable target for Kaepernick. With this selection the 49ers should have the makings of a solid receiving corps going forward into the future. As with other players, a huge season could propel Thomas well past this point and deep into the 1st round. Round 3-Joe Haeg-6'5", 310-OT-North Dakota State. An ideal fit for a zone blocking scheme, a tackle with very good lateral movement, agility and quick feet, has played both right and left tackle at North Dakota State, I think he'd be a very good fit for the direction that the OL seems to be moving in. "Joe has the feet of a dancer out there, setting up and cutting off rushers with his natural quicks. He's also bigger than I thought. Definitely shows skills that we can work with on our team." – NFC East scoutRound 4-Devonte Fields-6'5", 250-DE/OLB-Louisville. A risk no doubt because of off the field issues, might be a worthwhile one at this point in the draft. Fields has first round level talent but has never quite been able to put it together. Very good athleticism, explosive off the edge but a guy who mentally hasn't seem to have figured things out yet and got booted out of TCU. High upside pick that could wind up completely off the team's draftboard altogether due to his background. Could be another Lynch type pick if everything checks out. If he has an outstanding season for Louisville he could make a significant jump up the draft boards. Another possibility here is Bronson Kaufusi out of BYU, a versatile OLB prospect with outstanding height and weight for the position. Round 5-Kevin Peterson-CB-5'10", 190-Oklahoma State. With the injury issues that Brock has had, with Wright looking like a bust, another young CB to join the 49ers existing trio would be quite welcome. Peterson has decent size for the position and out times outplayed the much more hyped Justin Gilbert because he left for the NFL. Experienced prospect that could contribute right off the bat as a rookie. Round 5(Chargers)-Jacoby Brissett-QB-6'4", 230-N.C. State. Brissett is a good value here, interesting prospect, similar to Kaepernick in many ways, well built, strong arm, big body, at this point in the draft he is a QB that is worth developing. Super athletic quarterback, former basketball player has shown improvement in his ability to consistently make plays from the pocket, still has a tendency to telegraph his throws and has some functional issues, such as his footwork that need to be addressed. Round 6-Leon Allen-6'0", 230-RB-Western Kentucky. Two things you can count on with Trent Baalke, he will draft a RB and he will take a flyer on a guy with injury issues, why not combine both here. Allen is a promising RB that has had a variety of injury issues in college. He had a beastly season in 2014, will miss the rest of this season and enter the 2016 draft. He's a bigger, more physical runner but with surprising agility, he'd be an interesting back to throw into the mix with Hyde and Davis. Round 6(Cowboys)-Brad Craddock-6'0", 190-K-Murrrryland. Another Aussie to keep Hayne company and keep the folks in Sydney fired up. Craddock has hit on 82% of his FG's throughout college and an exceptional 95% last season. His only miss was on a 50+ yard attempt. Round 7-Mykhael Quave-6'4", 300-OG-Louisiana-Lafayette. Interesting prospect that could be a good fit in a zone blocking system. Has played both left guard and left tackle, has been a terrific pass blocker especially, very fluid mover with good agility, bends well, experienced starter that could provide some solid depth and potentially develop into a starter at the next level.

I like Smith, but I am hoping they target O line early and often.
