Is the WZ Wide Receiver obsessed for the NFL Draft?

They also won all of their Superbowl's with HOF's at QB. Times change, circumstances change

No one could possible excel in the passing system we have, and Keapernick needs to improve his preens reads, as well as his vision of the field. Last season we could have had Megatron, and Dez Bryant, and would have made little difference.
I see bigger need at corner, and d-line. I also, depending on Hunters health this we need a speedy back. Yes we do need a deep threat, but we also need an offensive system and a coaching staff that develops that threat, and utilizes it.

I agree with that.
SD you are right on point...we hear WR, WR every year. I agree Baalke needs to draft one...but most likely not in the 1st rd. The guy I think Baalke should draft at #15 is DL Malcolm Brown. He shined at the combine, but also on the field for the Longhorns. He's big, very mobile and has an excellent burst I think would work very well on Tomsula's DL. Even if Justin Smith sticks around for another season, now's the time to take a guy who could legitimately replace him in 2016.

If we had Megatron or Dez, that would have made an enormous difference. We don't have a #1 receiver who can consistently get open in single coverage which made it easy for teams to stack the box and shut down Gore. It isn't all on Kaepernick - our WR's as a group did not get open last year. Our O-Line was average-below average in pass blocking too which gave our receivers less time to get open and our QB less time to read defenses.

There's no silver bullet that will fix our offense - it's just not very good all around, but a WR who can stretch the field a little would help in the running and passing game. We could take an offensive lineman to compete at guard, but that's not going to have a significant impact year one because we have a bunch of average offensive linemen. A rookie QB or TE isn't going to supplant Kaepernick or Vernon Davis and a rookie RB would deal with the same issues that Frank Gore faced last season - defenses stacking the box and daring us to throw the ball. We have needs to future needs (to replace aging players) accross the offense, but there isn't a position we could draft that would have more impact on the offense early on than WR if we can find a true #1 receiver in the draft. If Cooper or White fall to 8 or 9, I hope we seriously consider trading up for them.

Um I sure don't.

His stint with Carolina hurt him a ton.

Might as well throw a dart. There are more quality choices in the last 6 than the first 6. DGB and Parker scare the crap out of me.

Not all draft classes are created equal. Throw a dart last year and odds are you hit a good player.

That's so true (damn, he should've just stayed retired)

But this tho (prior to Panthers--best winning percentage in league history, going 108-35 in eight years in San Francisco while winning two Super Bowls).

This. But it is really hard to keep someone who won two Superbowl's out of the HOF.
Green Bay is another example of a good team who never select WR's if the 1st round.

WR is a "skill position" and they get all the fanfare. Lineman usually don't get much recognition by the masses, unless it's JJ Watt. Our biggest need is at defensive line and we need to draft a day one starter in the first round. At #15, we should be able to make that happen.

How exactly did he mess up? Nobody thought Ellington was a bad pick, many considered him to be a steal. Do you really believe that the previous coaching staff would have done much better with an Odell Beckham Jr? I don't. He wouldn't have been half the player he was with the Giants. They simply didn't do a very good job of putting guys in a position to be successful, rather than playing to a guy's individual skills, it seems like they widely treated players as "one size fits all."

Until you finally let these guys play and have a system that plays to their strengths, then it won't matter who the hell you draft. All the people who think that drafting some monster receiver would be a salve for all offensive struggles I think would be incredibly disappointed. Forget the drafting, this team hasn't shown the aptitude to properly coach wide receivers in a long time. Pittsburgh took a guy in the 6th round in 2010 who was the best wide receiver in football last year. They've proven time and time again that they can scout receivers but also that they can coach guys up to extract their maximum potential. They have a system in place, they know what they need, they go out and get it, they know that they can coach these guys up, it all works together seamlessly.

If you want to look at the difference between the 49ers, the Packers, the Patriots, the Steelers....etc. A big part of why those teams have success is established and effective coaching of their wide receivers. Even in Seattle they find ways to utilize a bunch of scrubs to the best possible effect. Until that changes, until the 49ers are consistently able to coach up young WR's AND call offense that plays into guys individual strengths, its never going to be much better, I don't care much who you draft. Spend a 1st rounder or a 7th rounder, you're still inevitably going to end up disappointed as the guy will never reach his full potential. Hopefully things are changing for the better with Curry and Henry as the WR coaches but only time will tell on that.

Perfect!

Last year we could have had Jerry Rice and he wouldn't have been utilized properly.

That would be throwing a dart at the undisputed best draft class in the history of the draft. The swoon over WR has only been increased by the success of the last class. It is partially a knee jerk response to the impact those WR had from OBJ to Martavis Bryant. We threw our dart in the 4th round and mis managed our opportunity to find out if we had one of them to further contribute to the lore of the class.
