I think he is an overrated prospect. Looking at a number of 2014 games, I see a guy who has great athletic ability, but is flagged too often, allows too much to inferior competition. I think he'd get trashed against some of the better receivers in the country. Lucky he was in the Pac-12, which is on a down cycle for WRs right now

I can see Baalke going Defense RD1 (Brown, Armstead, Dupree) and trading down 5-7 spots to pick up an extra 3rd. I would then go WR in the 2nd and RB, OL in the 3rd.

DL, RB and WR all stocked in this draft. Keep an eye on Preston Smith if the team trades down in the second. He is a natural 43 DE, who has the ability to stack on a few pounds and shift to the 34 DE role. I think the team is all over him right now, and they should. A really terrific player at a bargain late second, early third.

If Niners go WR in the 1st, then they could address DL in the 2nd with Preston Smith and Xavier Cooper available (believe Carl Davis will go late 1st RD).
I would still prefer either Armstead or Dupree with a trade down in the 1st then go WR in the 2nd (Devin Smith, Devin Funchess and DGB might be there, Perriman will be for sure).

Great read MadDog! Thanks! I'm glad WR is looking strong again after missing out on the top prospects last season.

They can't screw up again. I liked Ellington as a 4th rounder, but had Martavis Bryant with my fourth rounder on the clock. Man, he would look good in a Niners' uni. Keep an eye on Titus Davis of Central Michigan. Absolutely zero buzz, but this guy shattered all records at CMU from a guy known as Antonio Brown. Davis is going to probably be a 4-5th rounder (there is nothing to excite anyone with his size/speed combo), but is super productive.

Do you think Baalke needs to pull the trigger on a WR in the first two rounds?

The team needs help and some type of long term plan at WR. Not sure it has to be through the draft. The team has aged rapidly and needs a lot of new and shiny pieces. I'd try to stick to the board as much as possible and not reach to fill a need.

Good call. I probably should have phrased my question like this: Do you think there is enough depth to pick up a quality WR prospect (future starter) after the first couple of rounds?
Hey magdog i was wondering how you would rank the receivers prospects from 6-10? I've always valued your take on prospects.

I'll throw in ten more

1. Kevin White
2. Amari Cooper
3. DeVante Parker
4. Tyler Lockett
5. Jaelen Strong
6. Breshad Perriman
7.Dorial Green-Beckham
8. Jamison Crowder
9. Phillip Dorsett
10.Antwan Goodley
11. Sammie Coates
12. Devin Smith
13. Reshad Greene
14. Titus Davis
15. Nelson Agholor

Perriman and DGB scream potential, but I haven't seen enough productivity from either, plus DGB's off the field issues push him down my board. Maybe this will change. Crowder and Dorsett and Goodley can fly (especially Dorsett). Again, Crowder more productive. Coates wins best body contest and full of potential, but hands of stone. Smith is a 9 route receiver only, but is really good at the 9 route. Greene wins best hands. Davis is just productive...period. Agholor is a good receiver. Wish I saw more dominating performances in bigger games (he kills lesser opponents)
Good post!

Really like Lockett - WR and Collins - OG

Where do you seeing them drafted?

The hate on Green-Beckham continues. He is going to be the #1 WR in this draft.

Id actually like to see the Niners take 2 WR this year. Brandon Lloyd is likely gone, Crabtree is gone, Stevie Johnson probably only has one year left (max), and Boldin's career is winding down.

the hate? I don't think WRs that take a year off football are entitled to being regarded as the #1 WR.....

It's not hate as much as it is when to draft him. The kid has talent but comes with about as much baggage as there is with college prospects. Baalke/York will look like hypocrites if they draft him after all the talk about winning with class. It'd be scary to think how much damage could be done off the field with him and Aldon Smith on the roster together in one season - at least based on their pasts. Hopefully they both get it together.

Lockett late second, Collins top 15-20

It is not about hate, it is about if a guy can keep out of trouble to stay on your roster. Everyone loves the talent of Josh Gordon, but he is a suspension machine. How does that help a franchise? At some point of the draft, he becomes worth the risk. But, as a first rounder? That is for teams to decide in their background checks and interview at the combine
