49ers #1 Need (Poll)

A great playing surface in the new crib...i.e. "Plant new sod/grass now". It might just help with the injury bug we suffered this season past
The #1 priority is to move on. IMO the pieces are still in place for another run or two so keep some continuity. Fangio seems to me to have an iron will, he is my choice for next HC.

The WR corp has two players who have some upside (Ellington/Patton) and two players who are proven vets (Boldin/SJohnson). The DE position has lost a solid starter in RayMac and is about to lose the best player at the position in Justin. Are Dial and Tank ready to take on the role as starter, and who is there behind them? The answer is 'who knows' and 'TJE'.

Vote 'DE'.

All very good points. However, Anquan Boldin's deal is up next season. I'm thinking he retires. I really like Ellington and Patton and WISH we would've played them more. I love their potential, but we still don't know what we have in either. I do believe worse case scenario, we have some very food 4 and 5 receivers. Best case scenario, who knows. But I don't think we can turn down a chance to get a guy at receiver that can come and instantly start.

Now in terms of DE, I think the case could be made for Mario Edwards Jr in the 2nd who we can plug and play at DE. We could potentially sign a FA to get into the mix as well. Now there is going to be some natural drop off, but outside of getting Leonard Williams, I think the talent we can add by going receiver first (White/Parker) and DE second (Edwards/Oakman), trumps taking a DE in the first (who would you suggest after Leonard Williams and Randy Gregory) and a receiver second.

You went way over my head with that response LifeLongNiner. I don't follow college football so I don't know of any prospects. I'll educate myself on it in the upcoming months though.

It seems like you are implying the drop off in WR talent is greater than DE in the upcoming draft. I wouldn't want Baalke to reach either. There's enough needs to not have to reach.

Free agent wise, I see Fairly, Knighton, and Raji as guys that may be affordable although I don't know if they fit as 3-4 DEs.
Owner, balls included.

Well, none of us knows who our HC is so no one knows what we need.

What if we go with a HC he likes to run the football. Is WR needed with Boldin, Stevie and ellington and Patton still here? surely we can add a vet for cheap in FA.

What if hire a HC that wants to switch to a 4-3. In that respect we will need 2 DE's. Yes Aldon can play one of those spots but can he be trusted to play 16 games?

If we stay in the 3-4 i think our starters would be fine with Tank, Dial, dorsey and williams.

With the amount of injuries we'd had throughout our lineup its really hard to gauge truly what we really need. Same thing with the horrible play calling. Hard to gauge jsut how bad our pass protection really was.

Wtih that said....

What we learned we needed from 2014 is.... TE & CB's for sure. While Cox, Brock and Culliver are servicable. I think we would be better off if they wasnt exactly our top 3. depth along the Oline, DL, A gamechanging WR.

if Justin retires, that means we have no true starter on the DL.. both Ian Williams and Jerrod Eddie are young pups but not ready to start, Dorsey must stay healthy, and how Clueless will Tank be in 2015??

All arrows point to: DL DL DL DL...

Dial to DE is something I've been wondering about. He seems a little tall to be playing at NT. As for Williams and Dorsey, Im not totally putting the interior run defense on them exclusively. They have both proven to be injury risks. If the Niners get a shot at a legit NT like Shelton who can swith between the 3-4 NT and nickle DT, I think they have to condider it. In college he was a rare run stopper who can also penetrate and get pressure on the QB.

I got really tired of watching RB run right up thr middle on the Niners this year.
DE no questions asked it has to be that.
In order of importance:

1. D-Line/DE (No Raymac and possibly no Justin Smith)
2. O-Line/OG (is Brandon Thomas the answer?)
3. Tight End (blocking & receiving needed; Vernon plain sucked at both this season)
4. Wide Receiver (it'd be nice to have some one go over the top of the secondary every now and then (vertically and horizontally) but we're in good hands with Boldin, SJ, Ellington, and Patton. Crabs will not be back.
5. NT (Should be fine with Williams, Dorsey, and Dial)
6. Corner (We should resign Culliver & Cox and then we'll have these two + Tramaine + Jimmie + Dontae + Reaser & Acker)
