Have we even learned how to properly call a time out (know when to call one)... what about clock management

All good points.

Play calling definitely needs improvement and clock management has been a problem, but at critical times in games, its been play exacution and decision making from our QB which was the direct cause of ending our season.

With the future unclear with Aldon Smith and the reality that Crabtree & Iupati are both more than likely not going to be in SF next year, along with the possibility that Boldin, Gore and Justin Smith will have less of an impact for the team after this year due to Father Time, it really feels like this season is our last chance to get the job done with this group of players.

Like its been mentioned already, you can have a HOFer at every single position and that doesnt mean they will win the Superbowl, but hopefully something will change in the coaching mindset a little to get over the hump this year.

I dont think theres been a team that has overcome so many mistakes, bad calls, bad breaks at crucial times in big game and turnovers all together in the same game AND STILL had a chance to win each of those games. We seem to be the only thing that can beat ourselves at times and even with those odds, we're talking about 3 single plays that ended up costing a Superbowl and two more Superbowl appearences (which in my biased oppinion we would have won).

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...... , doesnt mean ISH until you get the job DONE.

I think this is the year we have to go for broke to land the difference makers that will get us over the hump and being loaded with draft picks, we need to give up a little bit to land at least 2-3 of the top guys.

Great thing though, this time next week, we'll all know!!!

I think we end up trading up in the 15-20 range to target a CB, although if Beckham or Cooks were there it would be tempting to try and hit on a speed WR. I think we go after Gilbert, Fuller, Denard, Beckham and Cooks in that order.

I think I'm leaning toward Verrett and then going after Gaines instead of giving up much to get Gilbert.

We need to land Cooks and Verrett some how some way.

How about Verrett and Desir? I have been spit-balling that idea around lately.

Agreed
Seriously cam someone please find out how many roster spots we have this year. I know we won't carry 11 rookies into the season. So if we trade away 4-5 picks we will cut a player or two to make it to 53. If we draft more that's just more players we have to cut. I understand the desire to find that hidden gem in the later rounds but, people need to realize today even if we draft some good players they will never get the chance to show what they really have. They will be cut after preseason unless they show they are better than our vets. Even the first rounders have little chance of getting play time over the great players on this team. I just don't understand how people think some superstar 3rd rounder is just going to come in and ball out during preseason and become a HOF.

Long story short the strategy to draft for quantity for a better chance to hit on the picks might work for a team like the Raiders who have plenty of room on the roster to carry the rookies until they show what they got. This team however needs to pick the highest rated plsyers according to this teams staff. If we fail that means we need better talent evaluators not more draft picks. This being said I have no problem staying put if we trade out of this years draft at some point.

I agree. We are at least 1 top flight CB from a number one defense, and we are half a QB and WR away from a top flight offence. If Colin can develop at least 10% more in the pocket QB stats, and we get him one (but I'd rather get 2) speed WR's to compliment his long range arm and accuracy, we can win the whole thing, assuming the rest of the other positions remain as strong as last year.
Trading up and risking the draft for 1 or 2 impact players doesnt mean anything. Injuries to 1 of those players hurts your team because you also lost a lot of picks to trade up.

Any injury to Kaep or other star player greatly affects our chances as well. To make the super bowl you need to have a healthy team going into the playoffs, a QB who doesnt turn the ball over, a strong defence, and a few offensive plays a game that you capitalize on.

Its easy to say lets go get 2 high impact FA and or move to top 10 in draft and win superbowl, but there are so many other variables to consider. If Superbowls were won on paper or based on rosters, we would have won last year.
The difference with Harvin is that he was already a proven player in his prime. You can't just trade to draft impact players. First because you never know if even a top pick will turn out, and two if they do turn out it takes a few years. In other words we're not going to get a player in the draft that will win us the SB unless we are really lucky. And i'm not down to giving up the farm based on luck.

An Eric Reid type trade would be fine with me, but people just get trade happy and think its madden.. thankfully we have a front office that thinks about our future. If we get two good players, and trade other picks for next year, i think it would be a success.

You can't keep all the players just because you drafted them we are going to keep the same amount of rookies regardless of what round they came in so why not pick from the cream of the crop instead of left overs.
We need quality over quantity this draft.

If we moved up and only selected 3 guys that turned into All-Pro/Pro Bowl guys I would be happy.

It's a good thing this draft is deep with talent at CB/WR--what we need... I don't doubt that FO did/is doing their due diligence to make sure they get their guys. I just hope the coaches make leaps and bounds on their decisions, schemes, etc. With all this talent on one team, it would be a shame to not bring home the 6th.....
