Jerry "BooBoo" Gates-SS-Bowling Green

Jerry Gates has been a big-time playmaker for Bowling Green, productive, a definite playmaker who has performed exceedingly well both as a safety and on special teams. At 5'11" and 205 he has good size for the position and looks to be a nice late round selection, maybe even a replacement for Spillman.

My only fear is that as an incoming rookie he doesn't immediately outplay Spillman, the 49ers cut him and hope to stash him on the practice squad and like Marcus Cooper he gets nabbed up by another team. As a late round pick the 49ers won't feel obligated to keep him on the roster and make sure that doesn't happen and give him a real chance to develop.
