More signs point to Lions trading up for Sammy Watkins

If the Lions have genuine interest in trading up for Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins, they're doing a bad job of hiding it. If they're not interested, they've put together a potent smokescreen.

Regardless, the chatter is growing that the Lions could make a move for a wideout who would instantly give Detroit arguably the top one-two-three punch at the position: Watkins, Calvin Johnson, and Golden Tate.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press writes that there's a "growing sense" in league circles that the Lions are willing to make the move. But they may have to move all the way up to No. 2 to get Watkins, and unless they'd be equally happy to take defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, they'll need to wait until the Rams are on the clock in order to avoid being leapfrogged for Watkins

Golden Taint is going to fail miserably in Detriot.
Unfortunately Taint made a career of getting open during broken plays because of Wilson's ability to scramble.

We all know what happens when Matt "turnover" Stafford panics.
Does Matt Millen still consult with this team? Earth to Lions, you need to do more than just stock up on WRs.
The Lions would be dumb to do this.

The lionfarts better go after DBs in the draft cause it won't matter if they put up 99 points... the opposing team will just put up 100!
Paging Matt Millen, Paging Matt Millen.
This team continues to focus on the wrong things and it bites them every year. Their secondary is a disaster, yet they want to move up and get another WR instead. Unbelievable.
We can only hope, everyone has them taking a CB.

I think this is complete smokescreen. CB, LB, OL are major needs for them.

Tate has never played opposite a WR who will draw double coverage and at times triple coverage. He will have opportunities to make plays both umderneath and over the top.

CLearly this is a rumor started by the Lions themselves. They just signed Golden Tate and have a lot of cash invested in Megatron. Trading away multiple picks and paying another WR top 5 money is stupid. They are making other GMs think, thats all. Detroit goes Defence in 1st round.

They could take Lewan and address the secondary in the 2nd given the depth at corner in this class.

They should. This is the season for smoke screens so Detroit fans better hope these reports are bogus.
it probably is a smoke screen ...but even a base package with Megatron and Watkins would be difficult to deal with
