MBA's Mock draft ver 4.0 Post Free Agency

After one week of free agency and some trades, here we go with another mock. This is based on CBS Sports Draft prospect rankings of 3/17/14 and no further trades.

Round 1 Jason Verrett CB TCU 5'9" 189 lbs - NCAA leader since 2012 with 30 passes defensed (8 INT and 30 PBU); no change here
Round 2a Jeremiah Attaochu OLB Georgia Tech 6'3" 252 lbs - athletic pass rusher with long arms who also took some reps inside at the Senior Bowl
Round 2b Donte Moncrief WR Ole Miss 6'2" 221 lbs - showed more speed than I thought he had; someone to stretch the field for our offense
Round 3a Jaylen Watkins CB Florida 5'11" 194 lbs - willing hitter with good vision and closing ability; our bigger CB to add depth
Round 3b Kelcy Quarles DT South Carolina 6'4" 297 lbs - quick, strong and tenacious; added depth at DE
Round 3c Robert Herron WR Wyoming 5'9" 193 lbs - we need someone to add quickness and burst at WR; can play slot or outside
Round 4 Craig Loston SS LSU 5'11" 217 lbs - depth at S and familiar with Eric Reid
Round 5 Justin Ellis LA Tech 6'2" 334 lbs - NT of the future; showed promise at Senior Bowl and Shrine Game
Round 7 Spencer Long OG Nebraska 6'4" 315 lbs - Baalke injury special; depth for interior line
Round 7a Andrew Jackson ILB 6'1" 254 lbs - flyer pick at ILB
Round 7b Trey Millard FB Oklahoma 6'2" 253 lbs - Swiss Army Knife FB, Blocker, TE; another Baalke injury special

Your thoughts............
I think our comp is in the 4th round. Great mock tho. Verrett is my favorite and I really hope he falls to us or we trade up. Attaochu is not getting a lot of buzz but I think he could be a sack specialist. I don't know how many snaps will have for him next season with Skuta and Lemonier. I like Ellis too. He's a stout presence in the middle. He seems like the type of guy that would benefit from learning under Tomsula but we have Dial and Carradine entering the rotation next year. I don't know how if we have space for 2 more Dlinemen.

I like this a lot. I could see our draft looking similar to this.
I'd be happy with that. It covers the obvious needs very well. I echo eon's comment on adding two d-linemen, but it's less of a concern for me when the picks are spent later. It would make the competition on the DL ridiculously fierce which is never a bad thing.
could you offer a mock with the comp pick in the 4th instead of the 3rd?
Love Verrett.

Don't know the pass rusher, but don't see that as a pressing need. Don't believe Moncrief will last 'til pick 61. If he's the guy he and Harbs want, they may have to trade up in 2nd rd to get him.

Watkins doesn't have the long arms (they're only 30 5/8 " long) and especially after taking Verrett and acquiring Cook, Baalke will want another longer-armed CB to give Harbaugh two guys who can play press coverage. Here's where he could go McGill or Jean-Baptiste.

No issues with the rest, good job.

Fine, would be a nice nickel corner, imho.

Round 2a Jeremiah Attaochu OLB Georgia Tech 6'3" 252 lbs - athletic pass rusher with long arms who also took some reps inside at the Senior Bowl
IF he is the BPA here, I would be ok with it.
My problem with this pick is that we are pretty much set at LB, imho in both parts, inside and outside.

Round 2b Donte Moncrief WR Ole Miss 6'2" 221 lbs - showed more speed than I thought he had; someone to stretch the field for our offense
Perfect.

Round 3a Jaylen Watkins CB Florida 5'11" 194 lbs - willing hitter with good vision and closing ability; our bigger CB to add depth
I don't know about that one. We are not THAT thin at CB and we are good at drafting DBs late...I don't hate the pick by any means but you could pick a Reynolds, Exum (tweener and relatively fluid given his size at 6-0 and 213) or Aikens in round 4 instead.
HERE, you could go for a LB too (Jason Jeffcoat, Marcus Smith?).

Round 3b Kelcy Quarles DT South Carolina 6'4" 297 lbs - quick, strong and tenacious; added depth at DE
Fine. Seems to have the ability to be a 5-technique. Though one has to question how much he benefited from having a Clowney on the opposite side.

Round 3c Robert Herron WR Wyoming 5'9" 193 lbs - we need someone to add quickness and burst at WR; can play slot or outside
Fine.

Round 4 Craig Loston SS LSU 5'11" 217 lbs - depth at S and familiar with Eric Reid
Perfect.

Round 5 Justin Ellis LA Tech 6'2" 334 lbs - NT of the future; showed promise at Senior Bowl and Shrine Game
Imho, a waste of pick. I don't believe that the missing fatty NT is a coincidence. We simply don't play with 2gap-stuffers. And I don't expect a change.

Round 7 Spencer Long OG Nebraska 6'4" 315 lbs - Baalke injury special; depth for interior line
Round 7a Andrew Jackson ILB 6'1" 254 lbs - flyer pick at ILB
Round 7b Trey Millard FB Oklahoma 6'2" 253 lbs - Swiss Army Knife FB, Blocker, TE; another Baalke injury special
fine.

Grade: B+
I think a majority of us on here think the draft will go
#1 CB/WR
#2 WR/CB

After this, i think Safety is still a need for us, and the rest will be depth players (C, G, ILB, CB, DL).

It would shock me if we used one of our first 2 picks on any position outside of CB or WR.
I actually wouldnt mind if we had the opportunity to trade our #30 pick for a 1st rounder next season. Chances are the player wont make an immediate impact this year anyway.

If the comp is a 4th instead of a 3rd, I would push up the Quarles and Herron picks and skip Watkins at that point. I would then draft someone like Walt Aiken from Liberty with our regular 4th round pick and use the comp pick on Loston.

B++

Do not like the NT-pick at all, sorry.

Amy idea when they announce the comp picks?
MBA - Great Mock - Love the Moncreif & Herron pairing

Comp picks are announced next week @ the Owner's meetings
Love this mock... I would take a look at Archer in the 3rd.. and hopefully trade LMJ along with a pick to get Archer... I love Verrett. My favorite player in this draft. I hope we get SJB out of Nebraska over Watkins. I like height and physicallness. I like Loston from LSU too. Good draft overall! Moncrief is a big play machine.
I approve
Like your mock but I just don't see room for 2 DL's. We have our 3 starters from the end of last year plus Williams returning and Carradine and Dial coming in. That's 6 for 3 positions. We probably keep maybe 7 DL's total. That leaves TJE and Okoye and the others to battle it out with any rookies for 1 more spot. Personally I think we pass on drafting any DL's this year but if one exceptional player is available we could draft 1.
