I did a search and could not find a thread for Jimmie Ward. I do believe he merits a thread. He has good size and better than average speed for a safety. At the Senior Bowl, Ward played safety and he functioned as a slot cornerback. In the past two years, Ward has demonstrated exceptional ball skills. The chart below shows the top 15 defensive backs in defending the pass. Players are ordered by passes defended per game. Ward is ranked #8 on this list. He is the only safety in the top ten. I believe we need a safety with good ball skills.

This guy blocked like 3 kicks in college to, could be an excellent special teamer .

Soft?! I bet you haven't even seen film on the guy.

200 tackles and usually the first guy to bring the ball carrier down? That's not exactly soft.

You don't get 7 interceptions just standing still either, you have to compete from the beginning of the whistle to the end of the play.

Lol Jimmie Ward and soft shouldnt even be used in the same sentence. DUde throws his body around recklessly, punishing wide receivers. Awesome pick by Baalke.

yeah that's crazy that he ran a 4.4 with a fractured foot.

The kid reminds me of Earl Thomas. If he went to a bigger school he would've prob been a higher pick.

I keep seeing people mention his size as a liability. Whitner, Thomas, Polamalu, and Ed Reed are all the same height lol.

Soft as hell....where the heck did you get that from?? You do know that one of the reasons the 9ers drafted him for his tackling and hitting style, he's a very physical player, those were Baalke's words not mine. Also judging by his highlights or game play, it shows anything but soft.
