My personal 2014 draft crush is official. While I would love nothing more than Marquis Lee falling to us in the 1st (or far enough so we can trade up with a 1st and 3rd to grab him), I would love to either trade back or trade up to a spot in the top 40 to draft Brandin Cooks. Brandin Cooks isn't that 6'5 target that everyone wants, but to be honest there aren't any 6'5 targets in this draft that are better prospects than Jonathan Baldwin was coming out and we have him on our roster. There is no Calvin Johnson or AJ Green in this draft, but Cooks has the potential to be a Steve Smith. He has everything it takes to be a successful NFL wr: elite quickness, crisp route running, dynamic athlete, ability to consistently separate, good hands, elite after the catch, good character, well built, solid blocker, consistent production, and confident. This is the athlete/playmaker we've been missing on offense and the type of player we've passed over year over year. Hopefully we wise up and pull the trigger in the late 1st/early 2nd. The fact that he was so productive with a crappy qb situation at Oregon State makes you wonder what he could do with a legitimate qb that can get him the ball in space. He also can add value as a returner. From CBS Sports: Cooks really burst onto the scene in 2012 as a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award after posting 1,151 receiving yards. Anyone concerned that Cooks' numbers were inflated while playing opposite Markus Wheaton had their fears curbed in 2013, when Cooks won the Biletnikoff Award after leading the FBS with 1,670 receiving yards during the regular season. Brandin Cooks 5'10, 180 lbs PS. Most of the below highlights (especially the first 30 seconds) don't do him justice because they only show the separation on under-thrown/late passes, not just how badly he beat his man before the ball got there.

I think we need to, some of our guys are only getting older and if we want to start building to win a couple over the next 3-4 years.

I don't think they need to do that. They've got their #30, 2 seconds and 3 in the third. I'll bet they can move into the teens with their #30, one second and one third.

The only way I like Cooks is if we draft 2 WR's. Cooks and Robinson. Cooks and Mathews. Hell, even Cooks and Brandon Coleman. We need a viable big man for the endzone. It's almost as if some people haven't watched how our last 2 seasons ended.

I'm not sure why you are ready to make a vast generalization about a season's worth of offense based on basically two plays. One could also say that if the Niners had a legitimate speed receiver who was taking the top off of opposing defenses and forcing defenses like the Seahawks out of that 1 deep safety formation, that the last two seasons would have never come down to the plays that they did at the end.

Or here's another way of looking at it. Who are the most imposing tall "red zone" receivers in the league? You'd have to say Jimmy Graham, "Megatron" and a few others. How did Jimmy Graham do against the Seahawks? How'd the Lions do last season? On the other hand, which receiver burned Richard Sherman the baddest all last season? I'd say Ty Hilton.

The QB did have some problems last season. One of them was that he didn't have enough targets for large parts of the season. He's got a ridiculous cannon for an arm there. I say force defenses to worry about that cannon by getting some elite speed on the outside. And if that receiver does get behind a corner and starts running away from him, we've got a QB who can deliver a 65-yard bomb from anywhere on the field.

IDK, he had a wide open target that didn't have a defender within 10 yards of him on the play that ended our season....

Niner fans have been arguing about that play for months now. I say let's move on and hope that they add the one thing missing from this offense - a receiver with elite speed on the outside. Most teams have that. The Niners don't. Nobody ever has to worry about a Niner receiver getting behind them unless it's the tight end coming out of the middle. If they add that player, get a little better at pass protection and continue to develop Kaepernick into a pocket pro-set passer, I don't see anything missing from this offense.

3 passes to Crabs in the SB. Three. III. Thrice. Tres. We drove all the way down the field from our own 20. Then ended up first and goal. One run to James. 3 passes to Crabtree. Superbowl championship slips away....Then in the Seattle championship game Kap thought Crabs one on one against Sherman was an ideal situation to attempt a pass over the top of Sherman. NO. Just no. Sherman has made a career of making people pay for attempting that. If we had a bigger/taller/stronger wide receiver we'd have a better chance with a jump ball. The pass shouldn't have even been thrown. Not to Crabtree with Sherman on him. Maybe if the play was set up different and it was Boldin one on one with anyone but Sherman....

I get pissed off just thinking about it. We need a tall WR who can jump with a wide catch radius. It should be obvious. If we had a Mike Evans type player the last 2 seasons we'd be SB champs.

Oh, believe me Bro, I've moved on, just making the point that a big target like someone Baldwin size, isn't necessarily going to change anything for us, when a guy like Cooks can have multiple impacts for us.
