13 Players I'd Love to See in Red and Gold (December Edition)

I don't like projecting trades in mock drafts so here's an early mock for the picks we currently own, as well as the compensatory picks that are projected to us. I'm using the round projections from NFLDraftScout.com for a reference as to where these guys could reasonably go.

Key Needs: NT, Pass Rush Help, DL Depth, Playmakers at WR and TE, DB Depth, Kicker, QB Depth

Round 1- Jonathan Jenkins, DT, Georgia... 6'3", 351

Round 2- Corey Lemonier, DE, Auburn... 6'4", 246

Round 3 (CAR)- Jordan Reed, TE/H-B, Florida... 6'3", 243

Round 3- Dion Sims, TE, Michigan State... 6'5", 285

Round 3 (COMP)- Ryan Swope, WR, Texas A&M... 6'0", 206

Round 4- Darius Slay, CB, Mississippi State... 6'1", 190

Round 5- Zeke Motta, FS, Notre Dame... 6'2", 215

Round 6 (MIA)- Rodney Smith, WR, Florida State... 6'6", 219

Round 6- Dustin Hopkins, K, Florida State... 6'2", 190

Round 7 (CAR)- Kapron Lewis-Moore, DT/DE, Notre Dame...6'4", 306

Round 7 (CIN)- Nick Clancy, ILB, Boston College... 6'2", 234

Round 7- Quinton Dial, DT/DE, Alabama... 6'5", 304

Round 7 (COMP)- Nick Florence, QB, Baylor... 6'0", 205

If that draft were to work out that way, I might just hump your leg.

I'm not that crazy about drafting Reed along with Sims though. If that pick switched to say.....Quinton Patton who I really like and think has true #1 WR potential, this would be one of my dream drafts.

Ha, yep, the nice thing about mocking 13 picks is that it's like porn for draftniks.

I like Quinton Patton a lot as well. I considered him with one of those 3rd rounders. I am a huge fan of Swope too, though. Just a tough, reliable, chain-moving receiver.

I might've gotten carried away on Reed and Sims, but I'm counting on Delanie Walker being gone and I'm not overly impressed with Garrett Celek. I remember from a lot of the Fleener debates last year that you're a big believer in the importance of the TE position to this offense, and I agree 100% with you on that. With that in mind, I figure adding versatile play-makers to the TE position is the most impactful way to upgrade our offense.

Think about a 3 TE set where all three guys are legitimate play-making threats and solid or at least respectable blockers.
Great mock! I especially like getting Dustin Hopkins in the 6th and Nick Florence in the 7th round. After seeing what Florence did to UCLA the other day I feel like he would be a reliable back up. At TE though I really like Joseph Fauria from UCLA. He's a big TE at 6'8" and has excellent hands too. Hopefully he will be there when the 4th round comes around.
Very nicely done! I agree with Phoenix about drafting the two TE's back to back, but that is a small issue. This would be a phenomenal draft. Love the d-line depth and the backup QB you added late.
you need a better picture for lemonier--he looks very effete with his hands on his hips like that

LOL. He's just resting, not putting out the vibe.

Thanks, man. I did get greedy with the TE's, but I'm a big believer in the importance of the position. I know it's an overused example, but look at the impact Gronk and Hernandez have had in New England.

And I would be ecstatic if we could get DL depth of the caliber of Dial and Lewis-Moore in the 7th. Big fan of Florence too, despite his lack of measurables.
Zeke Motta! Hometown boy from my town of Vero Beach, Florida. Dont really know how good he will be but hes a very good student of the game. Didnt really make too much noise on the backend of the number one team in the nation, IMO, which was embodied by that great front 7

I took Motta for his special teams potential. I watch a lot of Notre Dame and he doesn't necessarily jump out from a play-making standpoint, but he is just a tough, physical kid. Would love to add a couple standout special teamers, as I think we've missed Costanzo and Colin Jones this year.

Very nice mock, would be great if worked out that way.
3rd round
Desmond Trufont
Corderrelle Patterson
Joseph FauriaIMO

Cordarrelle Patterson will probably go 1st or 2nd. I actually considered him with our #1 but decided DL was a bigger need.

Trufant is projected as a 2nd rounder by most sites, so I didn't want to take him in the 3rd.

I've seen Fauria projected as late as the 6th or 7th, but I do like him. The drawback with him is that he doesn't offer much as a blocker, which is a problem given how we use our TE's.

I would be so psyched if it went like this...and although it would require some luck, I dont see any of those obvious rose colored glass picks that alot of drafts on here fall into. For example you see people thinking we can have Swope ( who is my draft crush) in the 5th. Dont get me wrong your optomisitic...but more in the line of a guy could go earlier in a round than we pick as opposed to two rounds before we would go for him.

Edit: food for thought....say we could pry a third from somebody for Alex, who would be your extra 3rd rounder?

i'd be surprised to see them draft and not reload on some horses for the OL. after the starters, aside for Davis, there's not a lot of experience playing in a normal set.
