When you see an elite player at an offensive skill position, that trumps the defense, IMO. Primarily because you can find the defensive diamonds in the rough more easily later (Pittsburg is an example of how that is done; but you have to have good talent evaluators). That's why, last year I (and a few others) was/were advocating Dez Bryant). Green could be that guy this year. BTW, did you see that Jone blew up the combine today?
Love your addressing the QB early. I too believe that we HAVE to make moves to get our QB of the future THIS YEAR. As much as I choke saying it: If the Niners see any QB as a first round talent, they have to pick him in the first (Gabbert is looking like the only one right now). But like you I REALLY like what I hear about Ponder. (Although I must say, he did not bowl me over at the Senior Bowl; but they also don't get much playing time there either). That said, I don't think that Ponder will be there when our turn comes up in the second. Maybe Stanzi (I feel he has the tools and intangibles also and IMO he will not bethere at our pick in the 3rd).
LOVE your Rowling pick. Pray that he's there.
Love your Romeus pick (that's what I mean about dfensive diamonds-in-the-rough later in the draft).
I'd prefer another defensive pick in the fourth, myself. And hope our FB falls, but I cannot fault your reasons for picking Marecic. Just not as jazzed about it here. That's all.
Really like the Fua pick. Swap that pick with Marecic?
Really like the Lewis pick. Candidly, I'd like to see a SPEED running back before FB, because, even if we miss on Marecic, we can pick up a good FB in free agency. Although he will not have a prior history with Harbaugh, I do discount that whole coach-on-the-field thing a bit . . . for a rookie. But you may be right.
Rest of the picks seem real solid, with the right thought behind them.
One of the better mocks that I have seen.
BTW a possible scenario ( although MUCH harder to predict). Trade down to pick J. Jones. Use the extra pick to trade up and get Ponder.
Thanks for the effort put into your post.
