I don't know if this has been posted yet, but this is exactly what I mean with Locker. If you are going to go for a project QB in the first round, Cam Newton is the best option. My measure of a good, athletic project QB should have enough athletic ability to win a game on his own, inspite of how poor his offense is, a la Michael Vick when he was with Atlanta, Vince Young with the Titans (first two seasons and with the Longhorns) or Cam Newton with Auburn this year (what was Auburn last year without him?).[/quote]

An 8-5 team, barely getting by Northwestern in their bowl game.

This has been my argument for Cam. He instantly makes a team great with him on the field.

Locker improved significantly on day 2. And 8-5 is a pretty solid team before Newton. In 2008, UW was 0-12. 0-12!!! His first year under Sark, UW rose to 5-7. And now this year, 7-6 with a bowl win over Nebraska. Its no national championship, but if you want to talk about elevating a team you need to include Locker in that conversation

That AU team had wins over Furman, LaTech, and dreadfull Mississippi St and Tennessee teams, as well as Ball St. Washington with a QB like Locker should have a LOT more wins than that....it is up to a QB to elevate the play of his teammates....he hasnt, with the exceprtion of a few good wins.

Im not in the mood to re hash this argument again....please re-read in the other many Jake Locker threads.

But he is a talent. And he will go early in the draft...I doubt wont make it past the Vikings in the 1st. He has the ability, but just needs to be consistent.

The Auburn team is pretty friggin talented bro. You are underselling them to make Newton look better. He had Darvin Adams to throw to, who is going to be a late first or early 2nd IMO and was open all the time. Fairley was out there destroying other team's OL(IMO he won them the bowl game pretty much). He had Josh Bynes too I believe who is at the senior bowl. They had a good special teams with that Wes Byrum guy. I believe all of those guys have a shot at the NFL this year, and Michael Dyer will be a good RB with or without Newton and will eventually be playing in the NFL this year.

I'm not a huge fan of either player but if Locker had that supporting cast he probably would've jizzed himself.

Adams didnt become a factor till Cam got there.

Fairly became relevant this year.

Everyone can say that UW had no talent....he had a top flight WR and a top notch RB...sure he could have used a better OL....but to say that UW didnt have talent as well is alittle far fetched as well

All Auburn needed was a QB

UW had a QB

That is not true. Adams had a statistically more productive season LAST year, with more yards and catches and TDs. That dude is always open, and if he had a more accurate QB or played in an offense like Jones/Green do then he would have way more catches and yards. He is literally almost always open.

How does Fairley's relevance this year have anything to do with Cam??? They play on opposite sides of the ball. I believe Fairley spent his first year at a JC, and then last year was his first year in division 1 college football. He likely had to work at getting in better shape and more experience before he could dominate the way he did this year. That would be the case even if they had a guy from Mars as his QB.

I don't think Kearse is that talented of a WR at Washington either. He had 1000 yards sure, but that's because Locker had nobody else to throw to. I saw him get pretty much owned by Nebraska's CBs, getting pushed out of bounds and dropping a few passes in that game. The 2 other real talented players on that Washington team were Chris Polk and Mason Foster. Foster's not an NFL talent the way that Adams or Fairley are though, he's a mid rounds guy IMO and Fairley is a top 5 pick and Adams possibly a first. Kearse will be lucky to be drafted by the 4th or 5th round IMO.

I can't even believe I'm defending Locker since he scares me, but you are factually wrong with some of your statements here. Cam might have all the physical aspects to be a QB, but when you give him credit for stuff that other players did that's kind of ridiculous IMO. When you deny the fact that Adams had a better season last year with a generic QB, just because you hadn't heard of him until they had a good season, IMO that is just trying to make Cam look better.

The games vs Carolina and Alamba already had Newton looking like the best QB in the class. Newton was the main reason they won those games. All he needed to look better than any other Auburn prospect. If Newton wasnt there they arent going undefeated. Auburn wouldnt have stood a chance vs Oregon if they even made it there without Newton.

I suggest if you missed them download from bitcomet or somehwere and watch him. He will prove hes the best player they had.

All of this was my point.

And Willis, You brought up Fairly...not me. . No way AU would have been in position to win the title without Cam, much less make it out of 3rd place in the SEC West with spectacular games against USC (twice), LSU, and Bama.

I'm not saying they would'e gone undefeated or won a national title. I'm saying is that you make them out to be some sort of talentless team and he is their savior and that is simply not the deal. BTW I hae seen him play plenty of times, I just dont think hes as great as you guys do. Whatever though, you guys see what you want to see.

Can we trust you with judging QBs Kolohe? Weren't you on the Ken Dorsey and Cody Pickett bandwagon?

Nah, part of me says he has the most potential as a WCO QB and the other part says his accuracy makes him just another QB. He is a huge project in my opinion. He is boom or bust. Between the two Smith's we have had enough problems with inaccurate QBs. I trust Harbaugh too but I think we should go with a WCO vet QB this year and wait until next year to draft a QB. I think this year is full of project QBs... not many if any are safe(r) picks.

Ken Dorsey bandwagon....yes, Cody Pickett no, not really.

But in all seriousness, I agree, we should pick up a vet QB, maybe not just a WCO vet, but a vet who will be a solid stop-gap. And if we so happen to draft Locker, we could and should give him the Aaron Rodgers treatment, sit and learn.

One of the main problems I have with Locker is that hes overly hyped. And if we were to draft him with the #7 overall pick he'd be forced into the fire sooner than we think. And to start a project such as Locker in a much complex offense that we'll be running in 2011, not only will endanger his confidence as a passer, but set this franchise back yet again. That's why I wouldn't take him on the first day of the draft.

Not sure if he was the last, but look at this guys stats....What a Joke!!! Wonder how her turned out in the nfl

Com---268
Att---515
Comp Rate---.520
Yds--4,121
TDs---25
INTs---25
Rush Yds---131
Rush TDs---14

Care to guess who that was?

Nice try, but not a totally valid comparison. You are talking stats from over 30 years ago when QBs completion percentage was much lower than it is now. John Elway, Dan Marino, and Jim Kelly all had at least two seasons of completion percentages lower than 59% I believe, and Marino and Kelly each had one of below 50%. I will say that of all of the Hall of Fame QBs I looked up, Montanas was the worse. So if we are going to keep all things equal, if you are saying we should draft Jake Locker in the third round, I'm all for it .

I agree not really a valid comparison, except he is right, Montana did go through college with a comp/pct under 60%. Only thing though, Montana really only started one full season in college, Locker has started 3 full seasons.
I'm not a big fan of Locker's ability, but as a person, he seems like a class act. Real down to earth, humble but also shows a lot of leadership qualities. If he wasn't such an "Alex Smith" in the pocket, I'd be riding strong on this bandwagon.

I agree, and that's my biggest beef with him.

And again, same as Tebow, hes big in the leadership department, something you just can't teach.

He's more of a play maker with his legs than Smith was though. Smith had the ability to run but didnt really use it. Jake srambles more.

Alex Smith's lack of leadership is one of the biggest things that hurt him. The biggest thing that hurt him? Idiots running the offense. Well, instability, then idiots. Locker has the leadership, and the idea behind the Harbaugh hiring is that he brings to our offense what it has been lacking. Even if he has "Alex" tendencies as far as throwing in the pocket right now, I think he can work past it.

Agree with all of this

Harbaugh has seen Locker first hand having played Washington in the Pac-10. That should bode well if Locker has any chance of going #7, because he won't make to our pick the 2nd rd.

This is one of the biggest reasons why I wouldn't be upset if we selected Jake with #7. His leadership qualities and the fact that he wants to get better. He's very competitive and I'm sure he'll be a sponge and listen to everything Harbs will teach him.

Well, Locker didn't exactly look like Steve Young when Stanford made Washington look like a AA team this year.

I believe he got taken out of the game cus his rib injury got worse. He had no protection at all.

I think the bowl game against Nebraska proves how bad and soft his receivers are. They were getting pushed around and basically bullied all game. His #1 receiver had over 8 drops this season!!

Like I continue to say, I know Locker isn't a popular choice around here, but I still feel like he can become a very good QB in the NFL with coaching from Harbaugh.
