Von Miller is a must in Rd 1

Last year Brandon Graham was the top olb prospect if I remember correctly, and I wanted him! How do Graham and Miller compare?

Graham is much more stout, to the point where he was taken by a 4-3 team as a DE. That's not Miller at all...he's more of a Joey Porter/Clay Matthews-type (smaller, quicker 3-4 OLB who can beat tackles with a speed rush/inside moves).

In addition, if the 3-4 experiment fails, Miller still fits and a great 4-3 OLB prospect as well. Miller-Willis-Bowman is a very dangerous LB corp in the 4-3.

That would easily be the most talented corps of 4-3 LBs in the league.

I like Miller-Willis-Lawson better.

Mike Mayock recently said that there are a lot of pass rushers in this draft but after Prince and Peterson, there is a huge drop off at CB. I don't think the Niners can afford to roll the dice on an OLB. When I think about players like Aaron Maybin or Vernon Gholston, I think that Peterson or Prince are a much safer way to go.

Get Miller, restructure Clements, and draft a guy in R2 or R3 or sign a FA like Chris Carr.

What I'm saying is that if the Niners can draft a legit pass rusher with their 2nd round pick, they could upgrade both their OLB and CB. However, if they draft a OLB, the CB class is a pretty significant drop off.

Signing a FA CB alleviates the issue, but with FA in question, I think they need to upgrade their secondary for sure.

i agree, i want a PR but if peterson is there at 7, we have to take him IMO

After turning heads at the Senior Bowl and NFL scouting combine, Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller has been regarded as a sure top-10 pick and a strong possibility for the 49ers to select at No. 7 overall.

But there is also speculation the Arizona Cardinals could take him with the fifth overall selection.

Miller appears destined to hear his name called early on April 28. After all, there haven't been many -- any? -- vocal critics of Miller's game . . . until now.

Dave Razzano, who spent more than two decades as an NFL scout and appears regularly on Comcast SportsNet's "Chronicle Live," believes whichever team spends a high draft pick on Miller will ultimately be disappointed.

"He's got some Vernon Gholston in him," Razzano said, referring to the sixth overall pick of the New York Jets in 2008. Gholston failed to record a sack in 42 games and was released this offseason.

"I'm not a big Von Miller fan," Razzano said. "In looking at Big-12 tape, he does not have a motor. He doesn't chase hard. They run at him, and he doesn't fight off blockers. When he gets sacks, a lot of times he's not getting blocked. He's a one-move guy."

Miller recorded 17.0 sacks as a junior, and he was reportedly hampered early last season with a high-ankle sprain. After a slow start, Miller posted 10.5 sacks.

"I think that's an excuse," Razzano said of the injury. "I use Pat Willis as an example. He would still be tough and aggressive. But Miller doesn't fight off blocks. He still shows speed on film, but I don't see the effort."

Stupid.

I don't believe that is what he said. He said he wiouldn't draft Miller (or maybe even the other two) but would draft Quinn, Clayborn etc.

Von miller ran another solid 4.49 in his pro day. There's a good chance he goes in the top 5.

He did lose 3 pounds since the combine though. Still, that shouldn't hurt him.
