Sorry, not a Billick fan. Why would I want a coach that couldn't find a QB for nearly a decade? It drives me crazy when people want to bring in a "proven" guy, whose proven that he can't find a QB! That's been our problem all along!!!

That's fine... I didn't expect many to like Billick as HC. Would still be good to read what you and others think of more than just that 1 aspect.

My favorite selection in your grouping is Reed. He has a non-stop motor, and is going to be a special teams demon from Day One.

One name to consider for a later-round pick: Dane Sanzenbacher of Ohio State. He reminds me of the Jordan SHipley, Austin Collie type of receivers: quick, bright, and dependable.

Not so sure about releasing Clements just yet. If he does well enough down the stretch, I think he's worth the 7.5 in 2011. That would give Amukamara some time to develop. Could be that Nate will even restructure, but if I were he, I'd want to get the hell out of SF if they don't dump their scheme. After that, yeah, no way he sees 9+ mil a year.

Yeah, Brooks Reed is gonna be a good one, me thinks. Haven't watched much from OSU, so I don't know anything about that WR mentioned.

I liked the presentation. Very fancy.

Overall good draft, but disagree with drafting two RB's. Re-signing Goldson, Nate Davis and Alex Smith are all moves that shouldn't happen IMO. Nate Davis is problematic, Alex Smith its time to move on from and the QB situation should be completely re-worked. Dashon Goldson sucks and I know longer think hes starter material. But I like the drafting of Devine to most likely replace Westbrook, but Houston, I think we'd be better off taking another Safety there to replace Goldson.

Looks fantastic in theory. The biggest hole is that of Alex Smith. I seriously DOUBT he gets re-signed and even if he comes back and we win out and he throws 20 TDs and 0 ints the rest of the year....who says he'd even want to come back. Either way...whether he continues to suck or lights it up...this is Alex's last year in a Niner uniform. It just doesn't make very much business sense for him to come back. Not to mention...what's the point? Say he miraculously leads us into the play offs and we get smoked...then what? "SEE MAN ALEXKS WILL NEVR BE THA DOOD WHOO LEEDS US TO TEH PROMIZE LAND...JUZ GOOD ENUF TO BE STEEF DABURG!"

Point is...we need to start fresh @ QB. If we need to trade up to get Luck or Locker then so be it. There's just no way this team passes up a FRANCHISE signal caller come this off season. Maybe we draft Stanzi and sign a decent FA QB.

I like the coaching changes. Billick would be an IMMEDIATE upgrade over anyone we've had since Mooch. Say what you want about him but he IS a super bowl winning coach.

As a side note for some reason I get the feeling that John fox in Carolina is a coach that a lot of people overlook. I think he will get some head coach consideration, and will be on the Niners radar.

Great point. If I thought it worth spending time on, I'd definitely have included a replacement for Sullivan.

Hes not shining this year as we hoped, but I still think we are a better team with him rather than without.... so long as it's a moderate cost? Still have some hope and respect for Reggie Smith also.

- The QB thing... yeah, I was stumped on this. We all know I want Alex to be the guy. I agree that this outcome is looking slim. I would expect either Alex or Troy to battle a top rookie QB next year. Just not aware of any vet FAs or other QB options worth getting.

Thanks, and I think I touched on the QB issue. You're probably right, but I'm holding onto a glimmer of hope and optimism here.

I think that was only a one year thing to stop certain teams from buying up all the free agents b/c there wasn't a salary cap this off season. I believe they have until March 1st of 2011 to come to an agreement or the lock out becomes official. At that point everything is up in the air.

This aspect is quite crucial to me, as I see a coach who can find/train a QB as the most important piece of the puzzle. Billick, to me, is a major no-go.

As for Mike Johnson, I'm a bit torn. On one hand I like him, on the other, with so much talent out there, is he really the BEST option?

I like Del Rio. Only question I have is, is he young enough, and been successful enough, to be hired as a HC elsewhere very soon? The other thing that scares me? Should we be going after a defensive guy whose team hasn't been able to apply pressure to the QB, and has a horrific secondary, for years? Seems like the same issues we have now. I'd prefer an aggressive defensive coach, who gets after the QB, and forces the opposition to make costly mistakes.

The draft is good. I still like Locker, but CB being a need is undeniable. I like Stanzi, but I'm afraid drafting Stanzi means another year of A. Smith. Aaaaahhhhh! Overall it's a very different direction than I would go, but the one place I do agree, is that our current personnel may benefit from a schematic change on defense, and the 4-3 may be the way to go.

Me neither.. I am not feeling it on Billick. He comes off as guy that wants to be the smartest guy in the room or at least have everyone believing he is the smartest. He got really lucky when he ended up in Baltimore, that killer D more than made up for all the years of Billick masterminding a horrible offense.

But I do like the rest of OldMans post.

if ya replace Alex with Troy and get rid of the Morgan trade I would be ok with it
