Do we keep Alex Smith for '11 even if we draft a QB in the first round?

I think so. Carr will be out of football, Alex will start, Troy Smith will be the backup, and the rookie will hold a clipboard -- regardless of who is Head Coach.

No. Smith and Carr need to be flushed from this organization. Keep Troy and Nate. Draft the right QB. Not just one that will do whatever the Head Coach says. Let's make sure he has the intangibles to run an NFL offense.

our coach is the biggest problem of the team.

This is assuming Alex would want to stay here. If we draft a QB for the future I think we can basically guarantee he wouldn't want to stay here.

It kind of depends on how he does for the remainder of the season...also depends on whether the York's fire Singletary. Assuming Coach gets replaced, I'd say it's 50/50 that Alex would stay. He wouldn't get offered a huge contract, if he was asked to re-sign. If it were up to me, I'd hire Parcells to be the guy in charge...and empower him to bring in a top GM and head coach. Then I'd look hard at signing Michael Vick and I'd draft Andrew Luck. We need to upgrade the QB position, and those two would fill the bill. Under that scenario Alex could be the odd man out...leaving either Troy Smith or Nate Davis to be the #3 QB.

Agreed. Actually I'd rather have Patrick Peterson than Luck at this point. Get a franchise CB and go after Christian Ponder in the 2nd.

I'd tend to agree! What worries the heck out of me is the Niners will be right there in the mix for Jake Locker (not good).

We keep Alex + Dingleberry and the Yorks for 2011 and give it another go...

Worst case scenario........said QB is not playing, and Alex gets a shot under center. Chances are he stinks it up. Then here we go with the "oline stinks", "WRs cant catch", "OC cant call plays", "fire Gruden", "Yorks suck", excuses that are always made for him.

The guy blows.........good riddance.

If it looks like we're about to draft a quarterback in the 1st round Alex will make that decision for us and go elsewhere.

Jeez he almost got booed out of the stadium for David Carr just imagine what would have happened if we had a quarterback people wanted to see.
