Iupati over Bulaga??? WTF

As I posted earlier,

If the 49ers wanted to take a guard AND a tackle, we could have easily taken Davis AND Bulaga, with the loser playing guard.

Even Jon Gruden stated on ESPN that he though Bulaga will end up being a pro-bowl guard.

So why did we pass and take Iupati instead.

My hunch is that the 49ers have Iupati rated higher as a run-blocker, which Singletary covets.

The fact is, most of the NFL didn't rate Bulaga very high if he slid as far as he did, and no one opted to trade for him. Quite frankly, the NFL personnel knew something we didn't, and did not qualify Bulaga as a top tier talent.

On the other hand, in an informal poll of scouts at the combine, Iupati was the player most though had the best chance to become an all-pro. I'll take the known quantity with the higher upside at the OG position, and not try to transition a RT with short arms into OG.

if you did that you would have to say who is a guard upfront. i do not want a guy working at T and then when the sewason is starting switch him to G.

Nolan would have drafted Bulaga to have him switch positions. That should tell u something.

Dude, Bulaga IS a converted guard -- he played OG at Iowa before sliding over to OT.

I don't think you understand. If you take Davis and Bulaga, you're pretty certain AT LEAST ONE of them will be able to be a quality starting RT...the other will be a stud OG

Its not hard to convert a T to a G.
