We have an amazing opportunity in next years draft having two picks in the 1st round. Despite our recent 1st round blunder involving a QB, we should use one of those picks on a QB. Nate Davis is our project, but how realistic is it that he'll be one of those QB's in the Romo/Brady category? How much more realistic is it that he'll be in the Edwards/Gerrard category?

Shaun Hill is limited as a QB. We definitely need to pick a QB in the 1st round in 2010! Your thoughts?

The niners should draft two QBs next year, they might actually get lucky with one of them.

I think it really depends on where our two picks land in the upcoming draft and who is actually available at those spots. Do we make the playoffs and have a low first round pick? Possibly. Does Carolina turn their season around and turn our other 1st rounder into a lower pick? Possibly. Who is available? Are they worth the pick if someone like Berry is available or a stud OT? There are a lot of questions. I would say that we don't just grab a QB in the 1st with a reach or a trade up... the situation has to be right. And lets see how this season plays out first. We might be surprised, and Smith may come in and light it up, or Davis may actually get his shot. Who knows?

all of the analyst had nate davis going in the first round... but he has a learning disability! but he was one of the best in college last year??? we need to build him a o-line and lt him prove the critics wrong! he looked great in the preseason! a learning disability is labeled on him... obviously he's in the nfl! what does that mean? his disability hasn't affected him much!

Let me go out on a limb and say - it depends.

Personally, I would give up our two first round picks for Sam Bradford.

I don't think it'll happen because the Rams, Bucs, or Chiefs will probably pick him at number 1 overall.

Bradford throws the most accurate football I have ever seen from a college quarterback. IMO.

Of course, we still have to see if his injury will be a permanent issue.

Sorry but this is a terrible list. Jake Delhomme was a pretty damn good QB before the Cardinals game last year. Derek Anderson was a pro bowl QB but has a terrible team around him. Trent Edwards had a decent season a couple years ago but bad coaching and not a good o-line. David Gerrard was good the last two years but no o-line or receivers. Marc Bulger was a pro bowl QB. I can go on. Your argument is pretty bad. All QBs have a 50/50 shot in being a good pro or not. Nate Davis was projected to go in the 2nd round but his last two games in college weren't that great and teams were worried about a slight learning disability. Suddenly you want us to select a QB next year because Nate isn't a sure thing? How about you give him a shot before writing him off.

I disagree with your supposition that we need to draft a QB in the first round. By your own listing of them it's a 50/50 propostion at best. If I handed you a gun and said 3 bullets in the chambers, put the gun to your head and you have a 50/50 chance of survival would you pull the trigger? Not if you're in your right mind.
While I'm not defending Smith, Quinn or even Leinart it is still too soon to call any of them busts just yet althought they may all be. Ryan and Flacco are aberations, not the rule when it comes to rookie QB's. Most take at least 3 years to develop. Even Eli Mannning was under the gun until his SB year and Carr has looked decent as his backup now that he has a line in front of him. Still a lot of damage to that kid to overcome.
We also don't know yet if Davis will pan out even though he looked good in the preseason.
The only thing I completely agree with is your opinion of Shaun Hill. Wow we need somebody better.
But having said all this, I think offensive line should be our first priority because other wise any QB pick will be wasted.

I can see the merits of using those picks on other big needs, like passer rusher and pass protector? But if we have a shot at Bradford I think we have to take it. This is a very good year for QBs, and we have two firsts and questions at QB. It could be a long time before we see another situation that good for picking a 1st round QB. I'm just hoping that the panthers can lose enough games that we can get Bradford with their pick and still have our own.

This is a little inaccurate. If it was a really good year for QBs, then one of them would solidify themselves as the clear cut number 1 choice. So far, there hasn't been. Bradford could've been it, but the shoulder injury could be very serious and affect his future. There isn't that much noise in the McCoy camp and lots of analysts say that he'll probably be a late 1st rounder. Right now, the flavors of the week are Clausen and Locker mainly because they run the pro-style offense that NFL teams covet. I say we focus on the o-line/safety/pass rusher in the 1st round and wait to see how Nate Davis turns out.

The Rams maybe. The Bucs very unlikely they took a QB in the first round last year, and I think the Chiefs have a lot invested in Cassel, and I don't think QB is their problem.

This is hilarious. Can you honestly tell me that you'd be comfortable with Derek Anderson as our QB? Or a "decent" Trent Edwards? Or a "good" David Gerrard? Or even Marc Bulger? I can go on... Don't be a fool. What do all of these guys have in common? Yes, they're good enough to start in the league...but they've also NEVER HAVE and NEVER WILL win a Super Bowl!

I'll feel a lot more comfortable with a 1st round LEGITIMATE talent as opposed to a late round project.
