Last minute cuts vs last minute trades.

I want to trade a DT or RB like Givens/Street or Gallman for a cb. Maybe CJ Henderson and throw in a 4th rounder

I would love for them to trade or pick up a CB, Ambry Thomas is gonna need to find his game again after taking 2020 off. And I don't think the 9ers can afford to take on his mistakes on supposed Super Bowl contending team. Same with Moseley, but is it me or is this guy injured a lot too?? I see Metcalf and the rest of Seattle's receivers having their way with the 49er CB's if the 9ers just rely on Verrett, Moseley and Dontae Johnson. Also is K'Wuan Williams even healthy, thats another guy who's injured a lot too.

Exactly! Often injured cbs plus besides Verrett we don't have very good outside corners. We just need one more top 40 or so cb (or at least has the potential to be one without getting absolutely burned like Moseley dies from time to time). Witherspoon was that type, Dontae Johnson is that type and Ambry Thomas so far looks to be that type, although I will wait a year or 2 to confirm that assessment. We can't afford to lose to a team in the playoffs or SB bc our pass rush doesn't mask our cb deficiencies again. No way.

At this point, it looks like we are set at cb and that's with Dontae toast Johnson making the roster as our 6th cb

Realistically, guys, the chances of a team having what we want, and wanting what we have, is slim. Simplest to just try to pick up a couple of low picks for our surplus from teams who fear they won't pick them up when cut. We aren't going to pick up a top 40 corner, or even a potential top 40, in the roster cot downs unless he has a substantial flaw like Verrett did.

I think you misread what I was saying or didn't follow the conversation above. I was saying CJ Henderson could possibly have that potential him being a top 10 pick and was supposedly on the trade block after 1 year. In no way shape or form is Dante Johnson who I said is a burn victim even close to approaching a top 100 corner and never will be.

And it would be a lot simpler to trade a fourth or fifth rounder for that potential especially since that would be worth it.

Son of a gun…JL did pull one off, Jonas Griffith , LB , to DEN, for a 6th, plus our 7th, and then we get their 7th in 2022…or something like that.

Point is instead of just cutting Griffith, we got some compensation, even with everyone knowing that he was "free" once cuts are announced. Good on JL for getting us a 6th for a guy who was getting cut anyway.

In all honesty, I thot it would be a DL, but…cuts aren't announced quite yet. Maybe JL can pull another rabbit out of a hat. Don't know this but suspect DEN may have called us instead of other way around. Still, a 6th for us can be finagled down to a 5th…our GOLDEN round. Way to go, Big John.
