Big contract but no need to draft a corner very high + get say a 3rd round pick back for Green.

So kind of an arbitrage scenario where we replace one of our starting CBs with a FA and trade the former starter for a 3rd rd pick and now we've got an extra draft pick out of the deal that can be used to fill our tons of needs. And if Green is worth a 3rd rounder there are so many good players to grab in the region of 70-100ish.

Great move if they can pull it off IMO.

id rather keep Green as a 3rd outside CB hes pretty cheap anyway and he isnt an awful corner. I think he did a fine job considering our lack of pass rush

That's a great point, yeah unless there's some internal disgruntlement I don't see why we'd let him go with how thin we are at CB

Just kidding.
Nothing to see here.

This

Looks like we aren't keen on Green and he has value as a 3rd round pick. If we got Woolen I'd rather take the pick - can get a really good CB with that 3rd rd pick if we wanted to use it on the same position...guys like

1. Will Lee III
2. Davison Igbinosun
3. Malik Muhammad
4. Devin Moore

I'd take any of the above instead of Green on a new rookie contract to develop behind Woolen and Lenoir. My favorite is Moore who is 6'3 and he would definitely be available in the 3rd or even early 4th.

But based on our needs I'd use the 3rd rd pick for Green on another area of need... OL, DL, S, WR, LB

Dang, why everyone turning on Renardo Green man
Would be an absolute disaster paying Riq Woolen big time money to come to San Francisco. He was garbage the first half of the season this year. They were reportedly taking trade offers on him mid season. Waaaay to inconsistent.

There are plenty of DB's in this year's draft we could target.

It's a little odd.

It's a little odd.

He's super talented but seems to not understand his assignment. Larry Krueger says he heard he was on the trade block and there are concerns about his lack of maturity. IDK. I favor keeping him because he's young and clearly can play the position, just needs to grow up.

He was good for us during the KS era and especially in 2021 and 2022. Not having him in 2023 is a huge reason we didn't close the door in the SB. Had to rely on Logan Ryan as the slot and he got burned a couple of times in the SB.

That being said, Ward is probably done.

Agreed, he needs to clean up the mental lapses . I still look at him as a core guy going forward, but I also don't know s**t
trading Green, who is on a rookie contract, to sign Woolen for whatever he's about to get - make zero sense to me

especially since I'm assuming Green is on the block because of that spat he had on the sidelines with Shanahan, when meanwhile Woolen had a taunting flag on a 4th and 12 play in the NFC championship game

also, no thanks to Jimmie Ward, 34 years old, 2 arrests last year - enough said (he's probably done)
my top 3 FAs are:

1. Linderbaum
2. Shaheed
3. a vet LG

and I wouldn't mind signing DeAndre Hopkins, I know he's old, but he's still consistent and would be cheap
