C'mon Paraag.
Paraag's moneyball machine software is from the 1990's and $15M is the equivalent of $30M now.
He's probably using a converted super nintendo
It's March and this may be the best post of 2022.

Jaguars owner is dumb for letting Baalke go on a spending spree. The guy should be fired not given a blank check.

For real! Dude is giving top dollar for mid-level talent. Sad.

Jacksonville were dearth of talent now have signed 6-7 starters today. Over course they had to overpay. This is what happens with teams that were terrible the year before that have cap space. I actually like the talent they brought in should help the Trevor Lawrence. They sign a Pro Bowl Guard, two WRs, and a talented TE that is fast out the slot, but needs to stay healthy. Their defense should be better too. Good day for Jacksonville, but can they mesh all these players together and form a good team.

A championship level defense has a "force multiplier" at every level.
The last 22 years:
Ravens: Adams/Lewis/Woodson & Lewis/Suggs/Reed
Pats: Seymour/McGinnest/Law [in later years they prioritized secondary for the spread offenses]
Bucs: Sapp & Rice/Brooks/Barber & Lynch
Seahawks: Bennett/Wagner/Sherman, Chancellor & Thomas
Steelers: Heyward/Porter & Harrison/Polamalu
I believe the last drafted 49ers DB to make the Pro Bowl was Lance Schulters (and Merton Hanks/Eric Davis before him).

Yup. Not even close. I'd just rather have Jones.
Yeah, but we need corners more than pass rushers.
You can have Revis and Sanders in their primes - but if you can't get to the QB - they can't shutdown anyone.
Pass rush is always more important and impactful. I rather be elite at pass-rushing with average secondary than good pass rush with good secondary.
That's an outdated line of thinking that doesn't apply . PFFdid a long term analysis of defensive trends of pass coverage versus passrush, and determined coverage was more important to overall team success. Fascinating article that you should read! Look at the pats defenses over the last 10 years, they prioritize coverage and have put together some great units. Point is you need both. Also the only time this team has won a Super Bowl they had an elite player in the secondary if you want to go that route. Aka Deion sanders, or Ronnie Lott.
I prefer this team prioritize the passrush, I just think we need THAT guy in the secondary. If that happens watch our D go back to 2019 levels.
You say that's outdated line of thinking that doesn't apply and then give me an example from 1994.
PFF does what they do...NFL FO's value pass rushers more - bc they pay them a LOT more money.
I realize it wasn't the teams only move. But from 1993 to 1994 the niners went from 16th to 6th in PA. After adding Deion.
also that isn't a good point. It's only a possible market inefficiency. Meaning you might get more added value against the contract by investing in secondary.

No, we need at least 1 great cb to limit an opponent's great qb or wr which are many nowadays. People forget, if the qb has a quick release or the OL holds, the pass rush is negated. It cost the niners the SB vs the Chiefs and many other games. I'm glad the niners see it this way. Now whether they spend enough money to make this move is another question
Absolutely! Good offensive schemes/QB don't just stand there and wait for elite pass rush to sack them all game long. eventually, you'll need your DBs to come through, especially in the playoffs. Our problem is that we have no ball hawking DBs. We have a front 7 that can get us to the SB.....

I think it's even more prevalent as teams go more and more full Madden in the passing game.
As we've seen, OL are now allowed to jump counts and hold as much as they want to ensure the passing game is highlighted for fans in big games.
In addition, our division is loaded with receiving weapons.
The goal/ideal is to get 2 great ER and CB's like the Chargers just did.
Exactly the point. You need both. Teams can scheme against a bad passrush or a bad secondary. Can't do anything when you're good at both.

Easily affordable. I want him if we miss out on Gillmore
After handling the cap, wonder if we can snag him and if Reed would be willing to come back/make a deal.....more quality players/depth added

Jags are close to paying 40 million a season for just Kirk, Engram and Zay Jones. That seems crazy to me. Balke had to go all in because his job is on the line this season and he knows it. But the problem is down the road they are going to be stuck with paying average players these big contracts.
