DE/EDGE Alex Okafor- Can be a 3 down player. Good against the run, and has had pass rushing success from both sides in a 4-3. Sign Okafor, don't resign Carradine, and draft an EDGE rusher in the first half of the draft to develop. Would have to make sure that health checks out, but the injuries will make him cheaper than otherwise.

CB TJ Carrie - Great slot defender, can also play RCB, great at special teams, and has experience as a punt returner . If we draft a corner early he can still help us on the outside in a pinch, and would look great in the slot. Always important to have lots of depth in the secondary. It would make sense for him since he can stay in the bay area. Seems like a really good person off the field as well. He would be a lot cheaper than most other top CB options, and is still relatively young at 27.

ILB Preston Brown - Led the league in tackles last year. I'm sure he wants to start, so it could be difficult getting him over here with the Reuben Foster situation. I'd actually love Brown at Mike with Foster playing the Will as a 5 year plan. Sign Brown, don't resign Coyle, pick up a later round LB in the draft. Would solve our ILB problems before the draft.

OT Cameron Fleming - Was drafted by the patriots in 2014 with Jimmy Garoppolo; I'm sure they know each other very well. he's still young and improving. He'd be a great swing tackle, and a possible starter at Right Tackle. With Trent Brown's injury and Joe Staley getting older, it'd make a lot of sense. I get the feeling that Shanahan prefers veteran offensive lineman.

WR John Brown - If his health checks out... Sign him to a prove it deal. He's still got crazy speed, ran a 4.34 40 yard dash at the combine. He's probably a little slower now after toe, back and hamstring injuries. If he's still got it though, it'd be crazy to line him and Goodwin up. We all know Shanahan loves speed. He had 1000 yards in 2015, just needs to stay healthy. Will probably be cheap.

I like Okafor. 5 sacks, 9 QB hits, 3 Forced Fumbles in 10 games. Health is an issue but he is effective when he plays.

Carrie is interesting but at 6' 205 he should be a better run defender. He grades very low in that area.

Preston Brown would be terrific. Equally good in coverage and run defense. I don't think he qualifies as "under the radar." Sportrac has his market value at $8.4M/yr.

Fleming - would be surprised if NE lets him go. Could plug in if Brown struggles in return.

John Brown - meh

Thanks for sharing your input on these guys.

I agree that Preston Brown shouldn't really count as "under the radar". The reason I included him is because he isn't getting mentioned much on this forum. Everyone is talking about drafting Roquan or Tremaine. I like them, but I think there are some great free agent options that are proven guys in the NFL. Would be nice to have an experienced guy running our defense.

With the Patriots it depends. If they resign Solder I don't think they'd be willing to pay Fleming what the market will be asking for him. Especially since he was like a 3rd string tackle for them until injuries happened. Everyone keeps talking about upgrading the guard position; Maybe my memory is bad, but I seem to remember most of the pressure allowed this year was from our right tackle position. Gilliam is decent depth, but I'd like to get an upgrade if Trent Brown is injured or struggling next year. We gotta protect Jimmy starting with the edges.

With Carrie his run defender grade is probably more indicative of the raiders run defense as a whole. If we are depending on our slot corner to be making run stops all the time, something is seriously wrong with our defense. I care a lot more about his ability to cover, which he did a great job at last year. I'll have to watch more film on him and I'm sure there are things he can improve. The reason I like him is that he can play the outside and the slot, special teams and punt returner. He adds a lot of depth to several positions, and should be available at a good price. I'm also assuming that we are going to draft a CB in the first or second round to play the outside long term.

I don't get the "meh" comment with John Brown. What did he ever do to you? Did he hurt you? Was he a fantasy selection that didn't perform up to your standards? Haha, just joking man. His health is obviously a huge concern. If he's healthy I see him as an upgrade to Aldrick Robinson, Louis Murphy, or Victor Bolder. I'd prefer to have Sammy Watkins, Allen Robinson or Paul Richardson. They aren't under the radar signings though, and they are all going to be expensive. If Brown is healthy, I could see Shanahan resurrecting his career Marquise Goodwin style.

Anthony Hitchens- very under rated ILB for Dallas. Would be a really nice starter alongside of Foster and won't cost a ton, allowing the team to pay for an additional ILB to cover during Rueben's suspension.

Makes sense for Atlanta.

My friend is a cowboys fan and he agrees Hitchens is underrated. Their defense missed him while he was out.

Good call on Preston Brown. Would love I f we can sign him along with Johnson and Sitton. Get our Edge and other needs in the draft.
