Every team didn't draft Taylor Mays while passing Kam though. We wanted a safety and really blew it.

We may have blown it but it's not like his potential wasn't worth drafting. Dude was an absolute freak of nature.

The same guy who did not want to draft Patrick Willis is the same guy who fell in love with Taylor Mays.

Great players tend to suck at spotting greatness at their own position. Like John Elway. Still waiting to see Lynch go after a high safety pick but he did resign Ward sooooo. Not defending Singletary just noticing a trend.

So was it Singles or Baalke who pushed for him? I remember one of them being visibly upset when he was drafted. [Remember Singletary had final say on the 53 as head coach]

Pretty sure Singletary broke the table pounding it for Mays.

That's what I remember hearing also heard Baalke like Kam
idk he wasn't garbage garbage. dude was physically gifted. Just couldn't get the timing or awareness down on defense. It's a tough position. We still can't find a legit DBs not named Sherman.

He was always playing the wrong position... even at SC. That's why Carrol passed on him. There was talk back then about moving him to OLB.... but Mays was not happy about it. So, they let him play Way WAY back fielder and counted on the front 7 to do their job impeccably; along with very strong corner play. The first time he was truly open to a position change was when he was going to get cut by the Bengal's.... second time around.
