Nnamdi Asomugha was a 49er

Seems like we will keep 6 CBs now. Brown, Culliver, Rogers, Nnamdi, Cox, Brock. Some might say we will cut Brock or replace him with a rookie but seems unlikely after we just tendered and signed him. He had 16 ST tackles last year which is tied for 10th in the entire league and #1 on our team. If we keep him Cox probably has to sit because doubt we have all 6 active. Doesn't seem like room for a rookie anymore... I still kind of want to draft someone high because everyone other than Rogers and Culliver is a FA after this year and Rogers will probably be cut.

I bet we still draft a CB high, then guys like Cox, Brock and even Rogers would become expendable.

I wouldn't get too excited, 49ers fans. He was the overall tied-for-101st-ranked CB in the NFL of 2012, per Pro Football Focus. 101st out of 113 total for overall ranking. 103rd if sorted by coverage ranking. Better hope he's depth and you guys are drafting DBs in a few weeks.

I'm curious as to why stats are relevant to Seahawks fans except when we're talking about Percy Harvin.....

Thank you for your honesty.

If this happened two years ago, the web server would have been shut down due to traffic. We ended up with Asomugha anyway and are paying him peanuts. It's almost impossible to believe.

This is pure Baalke genius. Instead of Revis (with a knee injury) for 16 million, we have Asomugha for 2-3 million. If he doesn't blow it up, no big deal, if he does blow it up, we have an All-Pro corner dirt cheap for a year, and then we can sign him if we want to. Apparently, he wants to be here.

Yeah he wants to be here. He passed up reuniting with rob Ryan, whom he flourished under, and didnt take any guaranteed money from us.

Thanks Roland. Appreciate your concern

Plus, if you think Janoris Jenkins was the 101st best CB last year, you're crazy. I'm sure there's some credence to that chart, but there seems to be some significant holes.

Also, if you don't count the playoffs, you could argue that Culliver was better than Rogers or Brown on our team. FWIW

Bump

I think you should be more worried about the Seahags DB Adderall supply.

From Walter Football...

49ers sign CB Nnamdi Asomugha (1 year, $3 million): A Grade
This contract is actually worth up to $3 million; there's actually no guaranteed money in this deal. So, with that in mind, I think the 49ers are making a great move, as this is low-risk, high-reward acquisition. Nnamdi Asomugha was terrible last year, but there's a chance he could rebound in a better environment with a superior supporting cast and coaching staff. Asomugha was one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL, so I don't see why he couldn't revitalize his career - especially when considering that he's going back home.

Maybe but like I said Brock seems to be around for ST so I don't see him getting cut. Rogers would be too much of a cap hit IMO, Cox is the only option and he seems like he could be a good cheap decent option for the future. Not that I would mind if we draft somebody, I guess just get the best group you can and let them battle it out.
BOOM!!!!

is all I can say
Roland, it's been well documented and written about that Nnamdi wasn't suited to the "wide nine" Philly defence. Putting that chart up and then saying not to get excited is like tying a steak to your ankle and swimming with sharks.......
The Seahawk fan is right, this is a bust signing:

" The 31-year-old bottomed out by allowing an eye-popping 120.6 passer rating on throws in his territory last season, according to Pro Football Focus."

We are in trouble.
You guys don't indulge Roland. He knows were all aware of Nnamdis Philly career. He's a Niner now though and if he can rediscover half of his old form it's a win. If he doesn't we can cut him. He providesb great depth, experience, and competition. The roster is going to be so stacked after the draft.
The battle between Nnamdi and Rogers begins. If the Nnamdi beats out Rogers in training camp, 49ers will be forced to cut Rogers or ask him for a pay cut.
