Our NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday that the deal has a base of $2.5 million and has incentives that could bring its value to over $4 million for 2012. It's similar to their one-year, $3 million deal with Braylon Edwards last offseason, though the club is certainly hoping that things work out better with Moss.

Yeah, this is my problem with this signing. A person has only so much "change" in them before pressure or discomfort forces the "real you" to re-surface. And as I said last night this cannot be the long term answer for the 49ers. Up to this point all indications, at least from what I could tell, pointed to Baalke & Co. building for long term success. I fail to see how this helps long term. I'd feel a lot better about this if we made a serious push for Colston, for example, and re-signed Morgan (maybe they want too much money too?). Cheap and safe doesn't mean it's the best move. I have to believe that this isn't the extent of our WR FA moves. I have to believe that we are going to sign a much younger WR off the street with a bigger upside. I'm starting to have serious concerns but I want to give Baalke & Co. the benefit of the doubt and see how things look after the draft and free agency before I voice them.

lol i'm sure Harbs and Baalke know a 35yo WR is not a long term solution. Moss was brought here to stretch the field and open up VD and Crabs. he is also going to be the teams best red zone threat. something that was a major problem last year.

I don't disagree with you there. He will stretch the field and give us that redzone threat we've been missing - for this year. And thats provided that Moss don't let the old Moss express himself. Again, just because he's cheap and "safe" doesn't mean Moss is the best fit for this locker room. We do need his talent, I'm not so sure we need Moss.

Well, the Saints just resigned Marques Colston which means that the WR FA crop is already drying up. Colston was never a "take the lid off the D" kinda guy, but him being removed from the pool of Free Agents raises the price on all the rest.

VIncent Jachson was likely out of the question, so the Niners went out and got creative in signing Moss. They will likely sign another, smaller name WR and draft one with speed in the top 3 rounds (Stephen Hill). That way you don't have to depend on that rookie this year.

I dunno what Moss has left, but I admire the balls it took to sign Moss.

I just thing this signing is a bad fit for what Alex does. We all know that Alex will not risk turning the ball over and won't throw it up for a WR to make a play. Moss is the best in a jump ball situation. Look back at his best years and you see Culpepper and Brady just chucking the ball to moss and letting him make the play. Alex will not do that unless the WR is open first.

how do we know?

he does it to vernon quite a bit all our other WR are 6 1 or shorter so they arent go up and get them kind of guys

Most of the time VD is pretty open when he catches his balls.
