At the very least, if Aldon Smith turns out to be a beast, the QB would have a tough time escaping the pocket to the other side. Herzlich doesn't stop working before the whistle.
Very true! He could turn out to be that really good "other OLB" if/when we lose Lawson. I think they actually have a similar skillset... Lawson and Herzlich... neither are pass rush beasts, I don't think.
Herzlich is more strength/technique/effort than speed (4.9 forty at combine, IIRC), but I don't know how fast he was before he got sick. I heard he was pretty explosive.

herzlich was never viewed as a great pass rusher--might fit better for other teams

Didn't they steal Gary Guyton after he agreed to terms with the Niners? I thought they told Guyton that SF was a bad spot, since the Niners already picked up Ezra Butler. Then Butler gets busted for weed and gets cut, and Guyton ends up being a regular on NE's D, and we have nothing. I'll be
if they get Herzlich, too. Maiocco said they might go after ManLaw, so maybe they won't pick up a big-time UDFA.

Man i remember that year, i thought Ezra Butler had alot of potential too.

If this kid can play ILB as well, I say bring him into camp... This kid wont be out worked by anyone. At the very least he makes da practice squad and/or plays ST's...

From watching his vids, he tackles and runs like a Dlineman, not an OLB.. but he does have a lot of teh tools for success, who knows what could happen.

I think Herzlich can be good, but big-time undrafted free agent is an oxymoron.

From watching his vids, he gives a Justin Smith-like effort on every play. That's a very good thing.
