I really hope with Fangio as the new DC, they find a way to get Gibson on the field & let him get after the QB from all angles! I think he can be a real steal from the Steelers!

As a life-long Ohio State fan I was extremely happy to see us end up with Gibson. It seems like a numbers game in Pitt (obviously they are doing fine). Here is what I know about him:
He is exceptionally strong, a sure tackler, and a relentless pursuer. He will do a great job of setting the edge against the run and he will be able to fight off blockers while pass rushing.
Possible issues: He has a great burst, but is not a fast player. He will struggle tracking down mobile QBs sometimes and really won't add much in pass coverage. He is still learning the position so he will have some growing pains.
Ultimately, if Fangio uses him as a pure pass rusher and blitzes him from various angles and could really develop quickly. He won't get swallowed up back blockers as much as Lawson and Haralson often do. If we end up with Von Miller in the draft then I see the team cutting Haralson and starting Miller and Brooks with Gibson and LaBoy as back-ups. Lawson will probably sign elsewhere so this group will struggle to fill that void in pass coverage. Hopefully Fangio will use his OLBs as pure pass rushers and let the ILBs and safeties do that.

I can see us using him on third downs when we rush 4 DE kind of like the GMEN

He's a good player, He should make Niners fans happy, cause he may be the one who sends Haralson to the bench or waiver wire
I also see him as a Nckle 4 man front DE

Haralson is a waste of a roster spot Laboy is much better
trade him to MIA for a 6th round pick

Great info, post and points about how he might fit in. I like the potential of him as well...

Gibson's kind of an under-the-radar guy in SF...Baalke rather quietly claimed him off waivers, so other than his stint on the Steeler PS, there's not a lot known about him. But, he's a skilled player...who finally got on the field a bit late in the season. I'm excited about new LB Coach Leavitt...he was USF's head coach for years and established them as a powerhouse team. I think he'll be a terrific LB coach for Harbaugh and so we could see some shakeups WRT non-productive players that would prompt Brooks, LaBoy and Gibson to get considerably more PT. Miller would be gravy...

Well, he was drafted by the Steelers... they seem to know linebackers.
He went through camp with them. They can coach linebackers.
Kinda cool if you think about it... they drafted him in the 4th round... like a free 4th round pick for us.
Some Steelers fans thought he had a ton of potential and were pissed that they cut him. They cut him because they didn't want to put Aaron Smith on injured reserve and they are STACKED at linebacker.
Yeah the Steelers had to make a bunch of roster moves when they cut him, definitely a steal for us.

Even if draft a DE or CB in the first Gibson and McKillop could become our new OLB Carousel lol.
Is McKinnon still on the team?? I thought we cutt him
Who is McKinnon??? I don't think he ever made the team
Scott McKillop
