Mankins should be Niners top FA priority

trade Chilo first

Mankins would protect the blind side alot better and Iupati is more of a running guard.

Wouldn't that telegraph a whole bunch of your plays though?

Because the guy opposite Iupati is not very good and we have a chance to go get someone that would give us an elite offensive line. Seriously, people should forget about Nnamdi because he's probably only going to a winning team. IIRC Mankins grew up close to here or something like that and he's already been on a winning team so he might value money and location over proven success. Honestly, if we could get Mankins that would be really good. Imagine Gore/Dixon running behind a OL that has Iupati and Mankins? Not to mention Baas at C and AD at RT are both very good run blockers with some size already. He would be perfect for us an he should've been a 9er years ago.

Nnamdi please.

This

He would make our defense much better

Plus I would like to see Clements take a pay cut and stay with us

It would be like when we had Larry Allen. It was pretty clear to run behind him.

I honestly dont think so, because Mankins is also a pretty good run blocker, but he is an outstanding pass blocker.
As bad as the Pats o line was I think they might franchise Mankins.

the reason he is leaving new england is because he wants money. why would he leave new england if he wanted a successful team? He isnt going to go to a place with a left guard already. plus we just spent a 1st round pick on a guard last year. i am just being realistic.

1-he's a LG so is Iupati
2-we need to spend $ on QB, CB, edge pass rusher not OG
3-Mankins will be a very expensive FA

He could change to RG though, I'm pretty sure it's happened with guys before. Not to mention Nnamdi will cost more. I would definitely sign Mankins because we'd have an elite OL and with that OL we could protect our QB real well, and also run all over people with our running backs. That'd make it easier for a young QB or a vet who might be injury prone.

He could play RG, but he's probably gonna be looking for Jahri Evans type money (7 years/$57 million/$12 million signing bonus) as one of the best OG's in the league. The market might be a little different after the new CBA, but he's still gonna be pricey.

That said, I'd love to see it happen somehow.

You'd love for us to overspend on a RG? we have other problems at more expensive positions QB, CB, passrusher for example plus we need to re-sign Franklin, Baas and Spikes and may choose to reup with Lawson/Goldston also.

We can't blow our budget on a OG especially one slated to play RG. No way this move happens or is even considered.
he is going to cost. I would love to have him cause he is good.

We might need him to be the QB though, he learned from Tom and we have nobody else.

Every dollar you put at one position is a dollar you can't put at another position. We already have three first round picks and two second round picks on our oline.

I don't think there's a chance in hell we break the bank for Mankins.

Now who would trade anything for Chilo "Screen Door" Rachal?
I would love to get him but you don't have the get the #1/top paid free agent to plug holes. Someone like Carl Nicks would do just fine and probably will not make anything near what Mankins is going to cost.

They are both from California too (Mankins and Nicks) so I maybe they would want to come here and we could afford them without going way over market like it takes to sign most top free agents???

I'd rather have Carl Nicks...
Id rather draft a G. Championship teams build through the draft, they dont spend 50 mil on guys whose best years are behind them.
