At the bank, laughing at SF and Yorks for all the $$$$ he was paid, but didn't earn.

The irony of the 49ers giving up a 2nd round draft choice for Palmer and Alex Smith signing with Cincy for nothing is bitter but humorous. The Bengals would get a QB that is roughly the equivalent of Palmer but with a slightly stronger arm and pays nothing, PLUS they get a 2nd round pick.
Hard to say that will happen but it is very possible.

IMO he will look for a starter position somewhere in the NFL and may get it in the QB poor league. If that fails I think he will go to the Chargers and back up Rivers. He can be at least a good #2. And Norv Turner always liked him and the progress he made under Turner. Not thinking he will be the starter Turner will think he can at least do something with him as a #2. Plus San Diego is his hometown.

A few weeks ago, I thought it was almost impossible for Alex to remain in SF. Once Harbaugh was hired, however, that might have gotten Alex thinking that this guy would provide him with a more QB friendly situation, one in which he could prosper.
Also as time went on his anger toward the fans in the stadium may have diminished.
Secondly, Harbaugh has had time to think about where he goes from here, and probably realized that the crop of available QBs as FAs or through trades was weak.
Even though we do not know who initiated the face-to-face meeting, the fact that they both were willing to meet increased the possiblity.
I would say the probability has increased from 5% to 50%.
You really believe he has s 50% chance of resigning ?
Come on man be realistic.
If you were him why would want to come back. When 70,000 people booo you on incomplete passes no way in hell you want to come back.
The real chances of him coming back is less then 1%.
It's different when 70,000 fans don't believe in any decisions the head coach makes. It was booing Singletary's decision more than anything.
Now, let's say you are at Game 1 in 2011 and know Harbaugh has personally retained Alex and has groomed him to know how to be effecitive. Would you boo him after one incomplete pass knowing Harbaugh backs him?
I wouldn't.

If I was Alex, Arizona would make the most sense. You have a future HOF in Larry Fitzgerald as your go-to guy, a few young stud WRs in Doucet, Breaston and Roberts and good young running game anchored by Wells, Hightower and Stephens-Howlings. Plus you know the divisional opponents as well as anyone, and you get a chance to shove it back in the collective faces of 49er fans/coaches/management/ownership twice a year.
