If Orton is available, would you guys consider wanting him? He's still pretty young and has some pretty solid career stats thus far. I actually wouldn't mind having him here for a season ot two while we hopefully groom a new young franchise quarterback. Thoughts?

It's better than taking Kevin Kolb. I'm ok with this move in the short term depending on who our HC/OC is.

Orton is due 8.8 million next year in base salary and 5.5 million of it is guarenteed, so hes going to be trade bait if they do get rid of him, they wont be cutting him and eating 5.5 million. I think they will try to move him if Tebow has two more good games, the question is, do you really want to pay him 8.8 mil and how much are you willing to give up to get him in trade?
No, there are going to be better options out there.

Mcnabb should be out there or Palmer should be available for a veteran starter, and we should also look into getting a guy like Matt Flynn/Kevin Kolb as a back-up, and someone to groom for the future, plus, we can pick up another QB later in the draft or keep Troy Smith for the 3rd spot.
5th or lower

The salary is a bit high, but when you look at his numbers, he's never had a losing record as a starter, puts up pretty decentdespite throwing the ball often this season, he has a pretty low interception percentage, and would be a seat warmer until our QB of the future (Cam Newton ).

The best thing about him is that he is good enough (not in an Alex Smith good enough to get you beat kind of way) to buy us a few years, even beyond 2011. As for a trade, I'm open to no higher than a 4th round pick.

It depends on what they'd want for him in a trade. 4th or lower, heck yes I'd trade for him. Maybe a 3rd. He's a capable QB for sure.
parys haralson and a conditional pick
I would rather trade for Orton than Kolb, Orton has proven he can win some ball games.

Kolb IMO is overhyped by a lot of people, not just here but nationally.
much better option than a crapper like Mcnabb.

I would definitely do it for Haralson and a 4th. Hopefully Tebow balls out these last 2 weeks.

end thread
Orton would be a fantastic short-term QB, if we can get him for cheap enough (if he's even available). We should definitely be able to get him for less than for Kolb.
Not high on Orton at all.

Getting Orton would be tricky. The new HC there will have to make a decision on that before he would be let go. In the case of Tebow not yet established, it is unlikely Orton would be available.

Orton is about the best prospect out there that might become available. He has a history of being very inconsistent. In Chicago, with limited weapons in terms of receivers, he was not very good. In Denver, he has some nice games until the wheels came off. However, since 49er fans have become quite good at booing their QBs, he might fit right in.
