Before the 04 season we were going to trade our 1st round pick which ended up being the #1 pick overall for him.

This. As I said before, Parcells doesn't just let good LBs walk. If he lets them go, they're probably not any good anymore.
Unless Parcells is planing to draft his replacement, and he's got a bonus due or something.

This is reserve help and I'm ok with letting Scotty McKilop focus on special teams this year and become a demon at that position....
Ayodele can be a great insurance policy if Spikes goes down at all this year.

2 good things about him are he is good at forcing fumbles (4 in 1 year, 2, 2 more times/yr) and he does get int's (7) for a lb that is very good. Even if he is backup that is great but he seems to be an above average-good starter if needs be. He is a hard hitter and can get the int's we need as a defense. The only stat i do not like is his lack of tackles....which i hope is not an indication of his speed/lack of nose for the ball. Either way, a very good 3rd option at ILB

Word is Akin missed may key tackles. The same for Gibril Wilson. Explains why both were given the boot in Miami.
Yeah, he's a nice 3-4 LB and I originally wanted him when he became a FA and signed with Dallas. He played well there. He does have some pass rush skills and can play inside and outside. He's a solid FA who could even compete with TKO this year but if nothing else, solid veteran leadership and could provide good depth.
Only 9.5 sacks since 2002. Not that many pass rush skills.

49ers | Ayodele would be backup if signed
Tue, 16 Mar 2010 11:32:02 -0700
Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers have informed unrestricted free-agent LB Akin Ayodele (Dolphins) that he would be a backup at inside linebacker if he signed with the team.
Not even a promise to compete, probably a deal breaker I imagine.

Hopefully it isn't a deal breaker. He would be a great backup and could take over for Takeo if he were to get hurt

The Saints and Cards have also expressed interest in Ayodele. He's not expected to make a decision today.
