Ariz and Sea

our schedule was easy, u cant whine about playing certain teams on the road, we played the rams twice, seahawks twice, detroit, at some point u have to win road games against good teams, thats the main difference between us and the cards last year, while we lose in philly, they win in new york, we were 1-3 against afc south, they were 2-2, we are capable of doing it this year, but we dont need to make excuses for last year, we werent quite good enough to win the west.
you lost me at we were a better team last year, just had a harder schedule. We weren't a better team last year. And I think the expectation for this year is more about hoping the Cardinals aren't an 11 win team, than we are a sure fire 10 or 11 win team.

I like what Ray Ratto said on knbr today, he talks a lot about how bad the offense as a group is. Not just the QB position, but the blocking and the young inconsistent WRs, who have potential but are not polished by any means. He points out that out of all the stats the offense is not very good at points per game (our defense and special teams did score a lot of TDs last year).

"Unless they figure out a way to protect him (A. Smith), and find someone that will be a great adjuct to Gore, or replace him. I think this is going to be a flawed offense, and we will never know what Alex Smith could have been. I'm not predicting greatness for him, all I know is that at some point, you cant keep digging for new numbers, when the most important one is points per game, and theirs (the 9er offense) is not very good. Especially for a team in which most people think they will contend, I mean they won 8 games with an offense that probably should have won 6."

He goes onto say our team is built on defense and that will be the reason we might contend, plus if we have a strong draft that will help too.

Nice info!
It all starts in the trenches and building a quality offensive line. Keep in mind that Nolan wanted to start with the offensive line back in 2005. Here we are, five years later and still the offensive line is our weakest link. What does that say?

McClaughan doesn't seem to have an eye for offense, especially when it comes to evaluating offensive lineman. Besides reaching for Staley and Baas, he hasn't brought in any young, elite offensive lineman, he’s even had the audacity to state that he does not put a high value on interior lineman. What was the reason for our running game woes again?

McClaughan has done ok, when it comes to the defensive side of the ball but with the offense, he is as blind as a bat. He brought in several receivers and so far, with the exception of Crabtree, who fell in his lap, and Morgan, who was a lucky pick, has come up short. The jury is still out on Brandon Jones, but judging the opinions from the coaching staff when he was signed and the fact that he was unable to contribute last season even when healthy brings up more red flags.

You can blame the coaches, you can blame the players, but the most consistent failures have been from the GM. Now, with Pashos leaving and Sims seeking employment elsewhere McClaughan has again, put us in a very precarious situation. If he fails to land a starting offensive tackle in this year’s draft, we will not win the west or make the play-offs.

Great post! We had the 6th easiest schedule(.443) AZ had the 5th(.441)in 2009.

They are at least trying to upgrade their team through free agency wereas the Niners are not. Porter, Foote in and might get signed, Rhodes they are trying.

Sea is trying calling like crazy to get Phi qb's and others to visit. Marshall in for a visit. They are trying to compete.

Now the niners might not need all of those fa's but we could of upgraded our team with some fa O lineman at least. I am disappointed to say the least. Both of those teams are getting stronger and we will get better within our team only. The draft might or might not help. But that goes for Sea and Ariz as well. I wish we could go after some of the better FA's that would of helped our team.

How are you taking the moves of Ariz and SEA and are you pleased with the niners missing out on Free Agency?

Why are we favored to win the division? Because of Don Banks? Seriously, watch the last few games, check out our schemes, watch FAs, see who we draft, and pay attention to OTAs and training camp before you snap judgment based on PFT, Roto, SI, and other googled s**t about the Niners.

Tis true, we need an o-line to become real good, but we need a better schemer for OC and DC before we are 'favored' to win anything. I can't stand Niner fans and the hollow assumptions that we are going to win this and that, come back to reality, until Sing and Raye are gone we are stuck in 2nd/3rd in the worst division in the NFL - at least, I'll give you that much.

Am I the only one that can see we will always suck with the current coaching staff in place? They don't know what to with VD, Crabtree, and the others to make a statement on the field. You'll see.

If everyone else moves forward, and you standstill, you end up in last place!
I'm just sick to the bones watching the red and gold go down in flames. We were once was....

Or takes a lateral move to the left?
I think the Cards are losing more than gaining, and the sea-hens are waaaay f-ed up and are grasping at anything. The Sea-hens are more likely to improve than the Tards, just by shear volume of effort.

Offense is a coordinated effort. The more injuries, change of positions, change of QB, change of offensive philosophies,[run up the gut - spread, shotgun] the less productive it will be.

I THINK IT'S JUST YOU BUDDY! I also CAN'T stand niner fans and the misguided assumptions that the niners are not going to win when they are in a very good position to win games and the division and who think Sing will not or is not able to be a good/great and even in the state of our team CURRENTLY, we are 1st/2nd in our division. But then again....that is just common sense

I have a question. Why is SB XXIX labeled as 1994 instead of '95 when the other 4 are listed as '82, '85, '89, and '90?
