thats to high for a back that has been in the league for a while

27 years old

hes not a punt returner his best has been over 600 yards rushing & 6 tds in a season
why is McDumbass making these type of moves doesnt he know we can get a quality returner/running back in the draft with that 2 round pick?????????

i am starting to HATE Scot McCloughan with these stupid moves the niners are making more & more

Calm down, he hasn't even made the move, and he most likely isn't going to...you're acting like it's already a done deal.

You say you hate Scot's "stupid moves"...what bad moves has he made? I can't think of a single FA that he has picked up that turned out to be not worth the money. I also can't think of a single FA that I thought, "Oh man, I can't believe we missed out on that guy, Scot didn't even pursue him...".

Everybody needs to calm the f**k down.

hey hit the off switch on your brain.......

what about Jonas Jennnings?
what about Tully Banta Crap?
what about Brandon Jones?
what about Demetric Evans?
what about Moran Norris 2nd stay?
your telling me those werent bad moves?

u must be related to McClueless thats why your backing him & cant think of any wrong doing by his part.

Scot McCloughan wasn't our GM until January of 2008, both Jennings and Banta-Cain were signed before that.

Brandon Jones was our best looking receiver in training camp before he got hurt.

Demetric Evans was brought in purely for depth.

Moran Norris was fine as FB, helping Gore reach another 1,000 yard season behind the worst OLine in the league.

Thank you.

People still feel like Free Agency is the way to build contenders. This year's crop didn't even have that many players worth looking at.

REMEMBER MARVEL SMITH

That's all I can say. If you stupid enough to make the same critical decision twice - and this time give up a SECOND ROUND PICK in a DEEP draft, you really need to lose your job.

I'm sorry but what does Marvel Smith have to do with anything?

The team took a chance on a RT who had played at a pro-bowl level before being injured. If it worked out, it was a great help to the team. If it didn't, he got cut and we lost nothing.

He didn't work out - but it's not like the move hurt us in any way. Nor should it prevent us from thinking about bringing players on board with injury questions in the future.
pfffft.

the niners should get Leon Washington with no draft pick penalty since those damned jets tampered with crabtree.
Do you remember how we got two number 1 picks?

We used out second rounder last year to get Panthers 1st this year. That second rounder will be key in this draft full of talented athletes coming out for the uncapped year. If anything, we can trade that #2 pick and our first to move up to get a STUD.
If we go with Washington, we know what to expect. A solid backup RB and KR/PR. But that second round pick could land us a stud tackle/guard or a safety. I would rather go with the draft pick. We could end up with a beast or a bust. I'm a gambling man.

Our drafts have been decent as of late besides drafting lineman and WR (Crabs was a gift). Staley is the exception at the tackle spot. He is solid. Lawson, Willis, VD, Morgan, Robinson, Goldson, D. Walker were all good picks.

His good pickups through free agency were Clements, Smith, Spikes, W.Harris, Takeo Spikes, and Bly. . Jennings was a fail but don't forget Larry Allen. Isaac Bruce and Antonio Bryant were also good for us.

If we get Leon Washington I think it would be a bad move. That second rounder is important.

People still feel like Free Agency is the way to build contenders. This year's crop didn't even have that many players worth looking at.

Justin Smith, Franklin,Brooks, Spikes, Clements, Walt Harris, Bly,Michael Lewis. All on defense.

Brandon Jones, Norris on offense.

Which unit would you say is better and which unit has us as potential playoff contenders?

Now tell us again how drafting is the way to build your team.

So who did you want us to go after in Free Agency to help our offense?

We picked up those defensive players because we really did need to upgrade those positions.

The only position on offense that really needs to be upgraded is the RT and maybe LG positions, and there really wasn't anything available.

And I'm guessing having talent on offense like Gore, Davis, Crabtree, Morgan, a pretty good LT in Staley is not good enough to contend in the West?

I still believe that the draft is the way to go. Take a look at our defense. Spencer, Goldson, McDonald, Lawson, Willis, Brown have made their contributions too.

To be honest I didn't see anybody available to help our offense really. In fact the players I wanted was for defense. I wanted us to get an OLB (Porter, Merriman or Peppers) and a safety. this would allow us to focus primarily offense in the draft. While still getting the pieces we need on defense.

This is why I hate the draft is the way to rebuild talk. You can add 1 to 2 pieces in Free agency every year to solidify a spot that you wouldn't have to worry about drafting. Then hope he pans outs. Not that Free agents are can't miss either.

It would be a much different story if all the touted free agents didn't get screwed because of the CBA and were actually UFAs. If that was the case, guys like Merriman and Mankins could have been more realistic. But I do agree with you that the draft isn't necessarily the way to go, but I'm also not willing to fork out a huge contract to a mid-tier free agent just cus the choices are limited.

I agree about the huge contracts. But we see people going for decent prices all the time. The trade compensation also nice this offseason. At the same time, Wouldn't you rather 1 pricey guy instead of 1-3 bums every year? Imagine if we spent our Antonio Bryant, Bryant Johnson & Brandon Jones money on a pricey free agent instead of just chasing our tails.
I f'ing love Leon Washington. I've had him on my fantasy team every year (he was the #6 or 7 fantasy RB in '08 btw). I hated when he broke his leg, not just b/c of my fantasy team, but because he was on his way to a huge payday and I immediately knew that breaking his leg would cost him potentially 10's of millions of dollars (he was in-line to get at least 5 mil/yr, turned down 4.5 from NY unfortunately) and the possibility of being the main guy somewhere else, if not in NY. I'm not saying an every down back, but getting the increase in touches he deserved.

He is (was) so explosive he was truly exciting to watch. One of the very best return guys in the league, ala top 3, and an awesome fast back that can handle any down. He often was given full drives, not just 3rd downs. He makes for an incredible compliment & backup to Gore, in addition to turning he return game into a strength instead of a weakness.

Of course, the problem is his injury, though we never would have had a shot at him had he not gotten injured. I'd expect thorough examinations and opinions and if he looks ready to return I would be elated to get him for a 3rd. I would be willing to go so far as a 2nd, but I doubt the FO will.

in one of the best drafts in years we're going to give up a 2nd round pick for a guy who blew out his knee last year????!?!?!?!?!?!?

With two 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder, we could have 3 potential starters.....f**k giving up a 2nd rounder for a kick returner.

f**k that. Guy is worth it. 2 years ago he was great as a RB too. If his knee is ok, he'll be on the field way more than Coffee mark my word and much better change of pace back. Seen him a lot living in NY. 9ers wouldn't make this move unless they were 99% the knee is ok

no, why not draft Jahvid Best instead?

That would be a better option, but there's no certainty that he'll still be on the board. Plus, Washington has proven that he can star on a Raye team.

I dont think Leons been a star anywhere. I think we keep the pick and move up to get Best or even take McKnight later on. RB's are a dime a dozen why waste a high pick on a 27 year old with a broken leg . STUPID IMO. Nearly on the level of the BRowns trade with the Jets last season during the draft.

Wow. Sometimes I think alot of you posters on this site just use it to let out your frustration because maybe you hate your job or the old lady is won't give you none. Leon is a risk the same way a 2nd round rookie is a risk. The differance is we've seen what he can do at an nfl level. Plus I remember a few years back having some of these same "fans" talk about a 3rd round RB with two bad knees and he turned out pretty good. Give the guy a shot.

Dude. There is a difference between having two knees that have been scoped and a guy that had a bone break through the skin and had to have emergency surgery. While pre-injury I would have done this trade, I don't want to do it post injury. There is no way he will be back at 100% this season. Not from that kind of injury. We need a change pf pace back that can contribute this year. I would much rather draft a second rounder where the guy can contribute right away. We want to minimize the risk because all decisions involve some sort of risk. IMO a second round draftee is less Risky than a guy coming off majory surgery like Washington is.
I wouldn't mind picking him up it would solve our KR/PR prob and he would be a great change of pace back

Cant agree' What is the chance of a 2nd rounder being a major contributor. 40%? s**t...probably lower than that. Doubt 4-50% our 1st rounders have really panned out. Way too much hype on draft picks...until they hit the field. If his knee is ok the chances are much much higher of being a big time contributor than a 2nd rounder. We wouldn't make the move without almost certainty the knee is is ok
