Dude is done...and even if he wasn't, what is he going to do with the OL we have? He was going nowhere with a Charger OL that was 10 times better than Niner OL.
One team that would probably take him , that is high caliber and has a knack for used up but talented players is the Patriots.

I can see him in a N.E. uni.

I wonder if Bellichic(sp?) would even consider him, after LT made those comments on him and the rest of the Patriots organization.

Emmitt ahead of LT? You dreamin'.

Emmit was great, definitely top 10 all time, but he couldn't catch like LT could, and he had that HOF OL.

Emmit played great when it counted the most. LT sulked off on the sideline to be left alone everytime the Chargers season came to an end. If you are taking into account that Championship Heart and the spirit of a winner and a great team mate.....Emmitt belongs ahead of LT in my book.

Well what has Barry ever won?

Winning championships is a different story, but based on pure skill, I'd put LT ahead of Emmitt.

You're right about Barry not winning anything in terms of championships, but he was such a special back and did things that absolutely nobody could do before or has done since. If Barry wouldn't have retired early, he would've shattered most if not all of the rushing records. On pure talent and production alone, he gets my nod over everyone but Walter.

I'm not religious about putting Smith ahead of LT since they compare pretty closely in a lot of ways, but I think Emmitt being the NFL's all-time rushing leader, the all-time leader in rushing TDs, being 2nd in overall TDs to Jerry and his 3 Super Bowl rings gives him the clear edge, IMO.

I agree with Smith ahead of LT. Tomlinson sometimes created the impression of being aloof and disinterested in what was happening on the field when he was not in the game. The way he handled injuries also led many to question his motivation. Also, the SD OL, while not quite up to the standard of the Dallas line when Smith was playing, was not chopped liver either.

LT is clearly in the discussion of Top 10 backs but he is behind Smith.

In an earlier time, the 49ers own Hugh McElhenny was a good bit like LT and Sanders. He ran with power as well as elusiveness. He did not get anything like the numbers of the other two in part because he shared carries with two other HOF backs, Joe Perry and John Henry Johnson. Most here have never seen him and not a lot of film is available to see, but McElhenny was, along with Perry, Top 10 material.
