looks great on paper doesn't it....but here's the only problem / risk. He's played in a 4-3 his whole career. That's why the Chiefs traded Allen. They loved him, but they really wanted to go to a 3-4 & feared his productivity would dip in a 3-4 & knew they could get some good picks in return for him.
i like peppers allot, but it could be risky especially with the $$$ amount that he is going to command.. but imagine this:
LE: Peppers NT: Franklin RE: Smith
LBS: Lawson / Brooks / Spikes / Willis / Parys
WOW!!!

likely tagged players:
Franklin(49ers), Robinson(Texans), Wilfork(Pats), Hampton(Steelers), Seymour(Raiders) and Janikowski(Raiders)
other notes:
in a normal yr, Broncos would tag Dumervil, but they dont need to spend the 9.68M for a tag or tag Marshall at 9M+. Instead they can tender both at 1st and 3rd rd level which is 3.168M for a 1yr deal.
expect bidding wars on Peppers, Vanden Bosch and Dansby
other tender amounts;
1st rd- $2.521M
plus the saints and chargers have a bunch of RFA's to sign, like Jahri Evans, Shawn Merriman, Piere Thomas, Sproles, Jackson, Marcus McNeil, Malcolm Floyd, etc...
Good overall read.
That's who we need to go after. that kid is a freakin stud at tackle & by signing him it gives us more options in the draft!!! I would really like to see the 49ers go after a stud FA OT. Someone who can step right in, and contribute. Then it opens up alot for us in the first rd!!

Will be interesting to see if teams like San Diego and New Orleans will end up coughing up dough or just throwing a bunch of tags out and piss off the players.

I don't think he would be a DE in the 3-4 he is too small. they would have to convert him to an OLB so the question becomes can he play in coverage and would Lawson or Haralson see the bench. My guess is it would be Haralson because of Lawsons versatility. That said it would take a boat load of cash to sign him and we are dropping 7 mil to franchise Franklin.

Any chance teams like the Saints and Chargers decide to extend a few of those RFAs and give others lower tenders?

Peppers looks good on paper for the team but ugh I don't know about giving him a near $100 million dollar contract only for him to change his position and everything.

Probably a pretty good chance.
Saints free agents (restricted or otherwise)
Mark Brunell (UF)
Pierre Thomas (RFA)
Mike Bell (RFA)
Lance Moore (RFA)
Jermon Bushrod (RFA)
Jammal Brown (RFA)
Zach Strief (RFA)
Jahri Evans (RFA)
Scott Fujita (UFA)
Marvin Mitchell (RFA)
Roman Harper (RFA)
Darren Sharper (UFA)
Garrett Hartley (RFA)
That's 5 backups and 8 starters that are hitting free agency this year. The thing about offering a tender to a player is that it's not just the level of whatever tender you're going for, it's at least 110% of the previous year's salary for that player. Some of these players will be hitting the market.

6-7 283 is too small? Come on man! Brooks played alot at the DE & he is 6-3 259. 6-7 283??? Dude is a beast!

Plus he's the only DE in this League that can drop back into pass coverage & cover TE's & RB's! I live out here in Carolina & after watching my Niners we watch Panther games & he's a freak! He can play OLB! He's that talented. But he's best served in a 4-3 scheme

Exactly, that is definitely good size to be a 3-4 DE. Remember we signed Justin Smith when he was only 275lbs but he put on 5 more pounds and played at 280lbs his first year with us.

Me too. yeah Porter has a mouth. But we have a hardnosed coach who is a former linebacker and hall of famer. Porter will respect that and if he doesn't then he could be cut, simple as that. If Porter wanted to come here and play a role then I'd be fine with that. Peppers wants to go somewhere and get paid. Porter wants to play.
