He was released because hes not fast enough for Al Davis' liking
Nope
He was a great player in his day, but his days are done. So, no.
I'm sure he could still lead block really really well, but i think his glory days are over.
lorenz-NO-Neal
all he has ever done is block extremely well and can still do that

but he is not needed

probably because they wanted to use him for more of a pass catching FB when his specialty is trying to kill LB's
If I am not mistaken he has gone from SD-BAL-OAK in just a few years.

If that does not tell you he is done, nothing will.

agreed...he was awesome in Baltimore last year though. FB's loke Neal have long careers in the NFL, 16 years for him. I would love too, but we have Norris who is infenitly younger....plus it looks like the Cowboys might get him.

We have a guy named Moran Norris. Is he not popular enough for you?

neal was a good FB but we have our guy who is younger and just as capable. neal was a beast tho, he led the way for a 1000 yard rusher pretty much every year he played. thats a hell of an accomplishment
Yeah I would sign him. The reason being is his blocking ability.Sure we have Norris but what happens if Norris needs to leave due to personal reasons or is injured ? Who will effectively lead block for Gore and Coffee? Miller? He is just getting his feet wet at FB. Robinson? Too small to effectively lead block constantly. A TE ? It hurt our depth at TE. I would sign Neal in a heartbeat and since he played in SD there is some familiarity with the type of system Raye is running. Sing says he wants to run the ball effectively. Neal can help the niners do that even though he is older.
