Nick Mullens is responsible for putting the final bullet in the 49ers' 2020 season. Throwing two fourth-quarter interceptions, Mullens obliterated any shred of hope the 49ers had been holding onto for this season. It is easy to do it, but don't blame Nick Mullens. Nick is who he is, a mediocre backup quarterback who turns over the ball entirely too much. Kyle Shanahan knows this. That is why the blame should fall completely on his shoulders. Kyle Shanahan is the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. No matter how much some people want to excuse him of his responsibilities, Shanahan is supposed to be accountable for this team in all forms and facets of the game. I know all of you love the injury excuse; it is by far Shanahan's favorite part of the job as well, but it's...

Ask yourself, do you truly believe this a well-coached football team? Catch yourself before you blurt out the injury excuse for the 10,000th time. We get it, a lot of players are injured. The 49ers are a pro football team, believe it or not, and it's a physical game. Injuries happen, but coaches are responsible for creating gameplans based off of the talent they have available. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin got his team to 8-8 with Duck Hodges playing QB. What is Kyle Shanahan's excuse? Yesterday, the 49ers suffered the unofficial deathblow to their 2020 season. After getting out to an early 7-0 lead vs. the Washington Football Team, the 49ers collapsed in major fashion and watched their playoff aspirations soar out the door. This game wasn't like the 49ers' Monday Night...

"Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." -Proverbs 27:17 A phrase thousands of years old applies aptly to the San Francisco 49ers today. Social media is a haven for divisive debate, and if you are a 49ers fan, there has been no topic more hotly contested than who will be the man behind center for the team in 2021. Jimmy G loyalists see a man being unfairly and ungratefully judged for circumstances out of his control. Optimist onlookers peer at other passers with a whimsical glance at what may be. Whichever side you may fall on, it's evident that the quarterback position will dominate the conversation for this team from now until September 2021 and beyond. Most of this complicated conundrum began after the...

What a complete and utter disaster. 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is one of the hottest candidates for a head coaching gig in 2021, but last night Saleh turned in a red-flag performance. The Buffalo Bills are a very good football team, much better than these 49ers. That being said, Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll eviscerated Saleh's defense on nearly every play he called. The score was 34-24, yet the 49ers never had a chance. Bills QB Josh Allen was unstoppable, and the 49ers only hung around due to a few Buffalo hiccups. To understand how poorly Saleh coached, take a look at how the 49ers faired on 1st down alone. On 31 1st down plays (excluding FGs and kneel-downs), the 49ers surrendered 197 yards and 2 TDs. Those numbers alone would be a good stat-line...

Call me crazy, but I have a strange feeling 49ers QB Nick Mullens is about to do something very special. First off, Nick Mullens has not been a very good QB this season. The 49ers once thought they had a golden insurance policy on their bench due to Mullens' encouraging 2018 performance. Head coach Kyle Shanahan is still wondering what happened to that Mullens. 49ers fans loved that guy. In 2018, Mullens led a significantly less-talented 49ers team to a 3-5 record while throwing for 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Sure, back then he had George Kittle to throw to, but he also made now jettisoned WR Dante Pettis look like a future WR1 during a 4-game stretch late in that season (15 receptions, 338 yards, 3 TDs). Heading into this season, the 49ers loved what they had in...

Thank you, Deebo Samuel. As the circus that is the 2020 49ers season continues on, Deebo Samuel ensured that it remained relevant for at least one more week. On Sunday, the 49ers upset their rival LA Rams for the 2nd time this season, completing the season sweep of the Rams and bringing their record to 5-6. It was a messy affair that consisted of 7 turnovers between the two teams and a few dramatic lead changes down the stretch. In the end, the 49ers came out on top. The 49ers can thank WR Deebo Samuel for this one. He is a legitimate superstar. Scoff all you'd like; while his 2020 stat line may not impress (5 games, 27 receptions, 318 yards and 1 TD), Samuel transforms the 49ers offense in a major way. In the 5 games that Samuel appeared in, the 49ers are 3-2....

My 6-year-old daughter Gabriela dumped the 49ers this past Sunday. Well, maybe she didn't completely dump them, but she's definitely seeing another football team. With the 49ers on a bye-week, she insisted that we still watch football. I thought to myself "Man, I raised this one well," but the story took a turn. Gaby said that she wanted to watch the Giants play, stating that was his her second-favorite team because its players wore a G on their helmets. I explained to her that she was actually talking about the Green Bay Packers, a team she watched last week when it beat the Jacksonville Jaguars. Gaby confirmed that she loved the Green Bay Packers and a minor nightmare of mine was slowly becoming a reality. I can't blame her. As a 49ers fan, 2019 was one of the...

Face it, most of you don't deserve QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Yes, you, the ones who spend your entire weekend pining over other QBs and lamenting the one the 49ers currently have as QB1. The spoiled, ungrateful brats of the 49ers fanbase who cannot find it in them to show any appreciation for the man they call Jimmy G. Fans like these make a situation insufferable for a player dedicating his life and body to the team. As Garoppolo spends his weeks working his way back from another high-ankle sprain, many 49ers fans are fantasizing about how to replace him. This isn't a foreign concept for the 49ers. No QB is ever good enough for this fanbase. Steve Young can attest to this from his experience in the early 90s. He was never going to be Joe, and that was a big problem for a good...

The 49ers are off this week, so the misery stops for 49ers fans. While the 49ers enjoy a break, the NFC West features some very important matchups with the Seahawks facing off with the Cardinals and the Rams taking on Tom Brady and the Bucs. Enough Excuses. On Sunday, the 49ers suffered their 3rd straight blowout loss, dropping them to 4-6 and continuing their free-fall to irrelevancy. It was a game they could have won, the opportunities were there, but the 49ers just couldn't muster up more than 13 points of offense. Now, more than ever, the 49ers' 2020 season seems to be completely lost. While many look for a direction to point the finger, and there are a few obvious areas, start with the head coach. Sure, there have been a plethora of injuries, but one side of the ball has been handling those injuries much better than the other. Robert Saleh's defensive unit has been depleted by the injury bug, losing Dee Ford, Nick Bosa, Richard Sherman, Solomon Thomas, K'waun Williams, Jaquiski Tartt and other significant...

This week will be one that determines whether the 49ers should pack it in, or keep on fighting. In a prior article, I wrote that if the 49ers managed to be 5-5 after 10 games, they would have a chance to make the playoffs. The New Orleans Saints stand between the 49ers and any reasonable chance to compete for a playoff spot in 2020. Week 10 will be a big one. In Week 9 the 49ers disappointed, but my picks hit big. I hit on 9/13 of my picks, so let's keep that rolling and pick the Week 10 games: Best & Worst Picks of Week 9 My Best Pick: Bills 43 - Seahawks 37 Final Score: Bills 44 - Seahawks 34 My Worst Pick: Buccaneers...

The 49ers' season is all but lost. A once promising "revenge tour" has turned into a sad, spiraling train wreck of injuries and inconsistent play. Make no mistake, this 49ers team isn't going to have some miraculous turn-around. They are who they are, and who they are is a mediocre football team. 49ers fans aren't foreign to this feeling. Watching their team march through the malaise of November and December, trying to find a reason to stay tuned in while other teams forage forward with their Super Bowl aspirations. Quite frankly, this is a challenge that the majority of NFL franchises face every year. Once the realistic opportunity at a Super Bowl run is over, how do teams keep their fans invested in the product they are putting out for consumption? In 2018,...

Week 8 was my worst week to date. Both with my picks, and as a 49ers fan. Crushed is probably the best way to describe my current state of mind, but forever faithful will always live in my heart. So, in Week 9, we're picking up the pieces and making the best of a bad situation. Onto the picks. The 49ers are going to dump QB Jimmy Garoppolo. It has become apparent that the marriage between the San Francisco 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo has fallen on hard times. There is no banter at the dinner table, no kiss goodbye in the morning before they head off to work, no love letters in the lunch box. No, this relationship seems to be nearing its end. After Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, in regards to his QB's reinjury, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters they could "ask [Garoppolo] on the ankle." Yes, you can feel it, Shanahan seems to be at the end of his rope with his QB. The truth is, Kyle Shanahan needs Jimmy Garoppolo more than ever. He needs Garoppolo to be the scape goat for all the 49ers' problems. It's the best way for Shanahan to keep his reputation in...

Nearing the halfway point of the NFL season, I got back on track in Week 7. The league is taking shape, and the 49ers are in the thick of an NFC West race. Up to this point, no game has been this big for the 49ers in this 2020 season. Let's get to the picks.
