The San Francisco 49ers announced today that they have released
RB DuJuan Harris. It was a move that allowed them to promoted
WR Chris Harper from the team's practice squad to the active roster.
Harris was released by the 49ers on September 3 during the team's final roster cuts. He was re-signed days later on September 5. That was the same day that the 49ers signed Harper to the practice squad.
Harris was a late-season addition by the 49ers in 2015. He rushed for 140 yards on 27 carries in the final two games of the season.
Harper will wear No. 14 tonight when the 49ers host the Los Angeles Rams at Levi's Stadium. He joined the NFL with the New England Patriots when he was signed as an undrafted free agent in May of 2015. He started on their practice squad, but was later elevated to the active roster and appeared in five games. He only had one reception for six yards through five appearances.
Harper was released by the Patriots on September 3.

The defensive backfield could look a lot different for the San Francisco 49ers next season. With nearly 40 of its players scheduled to become free agents, the team has some difficult choices to make this offseason. That may include replacing cornerbacks Richard Sherman or Jason Verrett — or both.
They aren't the only cornerbacks scheduled to become free agents. K'Waun Williams, Ahkello Witherspoon, Dontae Johnson, and Jamar Taylor are all staled to test the open market. Emmanuel Moseley and Ken Webster are scheduled to be exclusive-rights free agents.
