Why the 49ers did not select USC’s Dwayne Jarrett

Apr 28, 2007 at 6:40 PM--

According to Matt Maiocco's Draft Blog, the 49ers do not seem to be as high on USC WR Dwayne Jarrett as most Trojan fans. The 49ers could have selected Jarrett with their second round pick but instead decided to trade it (along with a fouth rounder) to the Colts for their 2008 first round pick.

From Matt Maiocco's blog:
The 49ers -- like so many other teams -- were convinced that Jarrett just doesn't have the speed to create separation against NFL cornerbacks.

Nolan said "We're still looking, I believe there are still some good players on the board at that position, as well as some others."

Kyle Shanahan was the one who called about Aaron Rodgers as 49ers did their due diligence

May 3, 2021

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan joined the Rich Eisen Show on Monday morning and discussed the team's interest in Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers leading to the draft. Really, it was just the team doing its due diligence, but it was a hot rumor that made for some interesting discussion leading to the draft. "The exact truth is I didn't want to wake up the next day, on Friday, and see Aaron Rodgers, one of the best quarterbacks in this league, traded, without doing any due diligence on it," Shanahan explained to Eisen (h/t to Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group). "So I just called Matt and asked him if there was anything to it, and Matt told me I'd be wasting my

Rapoport explains 49ers' thinking when it comes to the No. 3 pick, and why Justin Fields may be out

Apr 26, 2021

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Sunday night that the San Francisco 49ers' decision regarding the No. 3 overall pick had come down to Mac Jones of Alabama versus Trey Lance of North Dakota State. If accurate, that means Justin Fields of Ohio State is likely out of the picture in the minds of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch. There was also a report from Todd McShay of ESPN that sources around the league believe that Shanahan is leaning toward Jones, while the 49ers' personnel department is pushing for Lance. That matches up with what

'It begins and ends with accuracy': Jeremiah explains why he thinks 49ers will draft Mac Jones

What is it that possibly has San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan so enamored with Mac Jones of Alabama? So much so that he might pass on Justin Fields of Ohio State or Trey Lance of North Dakota State. The latter two are seen as having higher ceilings in the eyes of most analysts. That includes NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah. If the decision were up to Jeremiah, he would pick Lance before Jones. He would even pick Fields instead of the former Crimson Tide quarterback. "Kind of going through the whole process of both those guys, that would be my choice, between those two, because I do think they expand the playbook," Jeremiah told Rich Eisen on The Rich Eisen Show. "And to kind of use a phrase you hear more and more in the NFL right now, you get
