San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters today via a conference call and provided several injury updates. He confirmed a report from The Athletic that defensive tackle Kevin Givens suffered a high-ankle sprain during the team's 17-11 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Givens' injury occurred in the first quarter. Also suffering a high-ankle sprain was running back JaMycal Hasty. Shanahan doesn't expect either to return soon. It has been only two games, but the San Francisco 49ers are in dire need of running backs. What was one of the deeper position groups just a few weeks ago has now become perhaps the thinnest. Even though the team doesn't employ me, doesn't need my help, and isn't returning my calls, I decided to search far and wide to help it find some capable running backs to help carry the load until some of the others return. I'm off to a great start, and have even written the perfect job description for them. If anyone knows how to get in touch with the 49ers Human Resources Department, please reach out to them and let them know I've done all the legwork for them...and that I'm sorry for the incident surrounding the Jim Tomsula hiring. I'm not wanting anything in return for

Among them was confirmation that cornerback Jason Verrett would miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. A surprising injury update was that running back Raheem Mostert will miss about eight weeks after sustaining some chipped knee cartilage. He exited the game in the first half and was replaced by rookie Elijah Mitchell. The 49ers spent two draft picks on running backs. In addition to Mitchell, a sixth-round pick, the team drafted Trey Sermon out of Ohio State in the third round.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters before today's practice at The Greenbrier in West Virginia. He provided several injury updates as the team prepares for its Week 2 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles. Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (knee) will be among the injured players who will not practice today. Both were inactive for Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. Shanahan was asked if Kinlaw's injury is something that might have to be managed throughout the season. "We're not sure. That's why we're trying to take it slow with him," Shanahan answered. "And when we have, it's gotten better. So, you've got to see how that continues to react. I think we'll be easy with him today.
