Garrett Celek injured against Cardinals

San Francisco 49ers TE Garrett Celek went down after blocking during a running play in the first quarter of the team's game against the Arizona Cardinals. He was carted off of the field and is questionable to return with an ankle injury. Trainers kept his left leg immobile while carting him to the locker room.

TE Vance McDonald replaced Celek for the 49ers. Rookie Blake Bell is the only other tight end active for this game.

The San Francisco 49ers are placing cornerback Richard Sherman on short-term injured reserve, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. That means missing at least the next three games. While Garafolo didn't have the specifics of the injury, merely noting that it was a "leg issue," his colleague, Ian Rapoport later reported that Sherman suffered a calf strain, which requires "a few weeks of rest and rehab." The San Francisco 49ers officially announced the signing of wide receiver Mohamed Sanu Friday, while placing wide receiver Richie James on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. Sanu, 31, is in his ninth NFL season after being selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Rutgers. Sanu spent four seasons with the Bengals before moving on to the Atlanta Falcons in 2016, where he remained until being traded to the New England Patriots in 2019.
