16 observations from the 49ers' gut-wrenching loss on Sunday

The San Francisco 49ers lost another heart-breaker on Sunday, this time to the hated Seattle Seahawks, falling 28-21. The offense was scorching hot on its first drive. The defense was dominant for most of the first half, particularly the first five series. After those five series, the Seahawks offense netted negative yards. But the 49ers' offense failed to capitalize, and as a result, only had a 7-0 lead before momentum started to shift. And now, much of the fanbase has turned on head coach Kyle Shanahan. Some are calling for his job. How soon we forget some of the inept coaches the 49ers have had in the past. Dennis Erickson, Mike Nolan, Mike Singeltary, Jim Tomsula, and Chip Kelly all

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 5 contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo did not practice this week and has been ruled "out" for Sunday, which means fans will see rookie Trey Lance in his first career NFL start. Garoppolo suffered a calf injury during Week 4's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The hope was that he would take part in today's practice and test his right leg. That didn't happen. Tight end George Kittle also did not practice this week and is listed as "doubtful." He is also dealing with a calf injury. It's the same injury that kept him out of practice for most of last week. However, Kittle was able to play this past weekend. We'll have to wait to see if

Former San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle, Joe Staley, went on KNBR Radio on Monday to discuss the 49ers' loss to the Arizona Cardinals. As expected, the conversation went to the quarterback situation with Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, including who Staley believed would be under center in two weeks when the 49ers play the Indianapolis Colts. "I think he made his decision before the season even started," Staley said on the Papa & Lund show. "If Jimmy's healthy, he's going to be our quarterback this year. They want to use it as a red-shirt year, almost, for Trey this season. I was encouraged." That seemed to be the plan in the offseason, to have Lance sit and learn. Even after the game on Sunday, Kyle Shanahan continued to hold his ground that

Do the San Francisco 49ers have an identity crisis on offense? Former 49ers great, and current analyst, Joe Staley, thinks so. And he's not the only one. Staley went on KNBR's Papa & Lund show on Monday to talk 49ers. In addition to saying Kyle Shanahan will likely go back to Jimmy Garoppolo in two weeks, but that the offense is more exciting with Trey Lance, Staley spent some time talking about the identity of the team. Particularly, the identity of the offense. "What's been shocking to me is that, one of the things, too, has been that stretch zone, but all the play-action roll-outs, that was one of our identities, the keep game. And it hasn't been
