Jan 28, 2007 at 5:03 PM--

Following his interview for the head coach job with the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator spoke with the media.

"The first thing is, it was really exciting for me. It’s the first time I’ve been in this building since I was apart of this organization many years ago. We talked a little bit about everything, it’s a great opportunity, its one of the great organizations in all of sports. I had a chance to visit with Jerry and get a real good idea of what he’s thinking,” Turner said.

When asked about being the front runner for the job, Turner said, “I think the guys who have come in and talked are very qualified. I want a chance to come in and talk and I know what Jerry is looking for and its certainly as big a decision as you can make. I’m excited I had a chance to visit.”

Turner also spoke with former Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells regarding the current Cowboys players and where they are at. The Cowboys have not yet made a decision and Turner has already started heading back to the Bay Area.

Multiple sources within the Dallas media have already stated that Turner is the leading candidate for the Cowboys' head coaching job and that he will most likely receive an offer sometime tomorrow.

On Friday, the 49ers made a lucrative bid to retain Turner as their offensive coordinator. Details of that offer have not been made available.

New San Francisco 49ers running back Trey Sermon was already familiar with at least one rookie teammate — quarterback Trey Lance. The two trained together, leading to the draft, and Sermon learned quickly how hard of a worker Lance is. "When I got that call (from the 49ers), I was excited," Sermon shared with reporters on Friday. "I was training with this guy back in Florida, and now we're going to be on the same team. It was definitely a good feeling." Sermon, Lance, and the rest of the 49ers rookies are taking part in a three-day minicamp this weekend. They were already hard at work learning Kyle Shanahan's playbook. The rookie minicamp will be their first opportunity to show the coaching staff how much they have absorbed. Sermon was asked

Trey Lance is all business. The rookie quarterback is focused on the job at hand with the San Francisco 49ers. Over the next three days, that will involve a rookie minicamp, his first foray to the NFL. Over the offseason and probably for much of his rookie year, Lance will get to know head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense as best he can. Lance is the quarterback of the future for the 49ers. However, he won't step into that QB1 role until he is ready, until he has a solid grasp of the offense, and can show he can execute it to near perfection. Jimmy Garoppolo is the leader in the quarterback room right now. It's a room that also consists of Nate Sudfeld, Josh Rosen, Josh Johnson, and now Lance.
