According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, San Francisco 49ers first round selections, defensive lineman Arik Armstead, has chosen or been given a jersey number. That number is 69, which he will wear beginning tomorrow when the team hits the practice field.

He had previously been listed on the team roster as No. 94, which is the former number of retired defensive lineman Justin Smith.

Armstead wore No. 9 in college while at Oregon.

Arik Armstead's unselfish play a big reason for 49ers' impressive run defense, says DeMeco Ryans

By David Bonilla

The San Francisco 49ers run defense has been as good as anybody's through the second half of the season. In fact, The Athletic's David Lombardi pointed out that the 49ers own the NFL's top run defense since their Week 6 bye. That's about when defensive lineman Arik Armstead moved to primarily play inside, filling in for an injured Javon Kinlaw. The 49ers don't see that as a coincidence. "I think our run defense improved drastically because of the unselfish play by Arik Armstead," defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans said on Friday. "I think people kind of forget we lost our starter in Kinlaw early in the year, and we were trying to figure that out inside. When you want to

49ers-Cowboys: Everyone stepped up after Nick Bosa's injury, says D.J. Jones and Arik Armstead

It was hard to see San Francisco 49ers pass rusher Nick Bosa down on the field late in the first half of Sunday's playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. Everyone, including the fans, knows how much the young defensive end means to the 49ers defense. After the team lost Bosa early last season, the pass rush never really got going. Bosa was ruled out with a head injury and will likely enter the concussion protocol this week, ahead of the 49ers' next playoff game—a Divisional Round matchup against the Green Bay Packers. "We were thinking of him, and I'm happy that he'll be OK, and it's not too serious," defensive lineman Arik Armstead said after Sunday's game. "Obviously, we can't wait to get him back. He's a force for us, and I love playing alongside

49ers Notebook: Shanahan on Jimmy Garoppolo's mistakes; D.J. Jones' high praise for Arik Armstead; Deebo gets his wish

What did Kyle Shanahan think of Jimmy Garoppolo's performance against the Cowboys on Sunday? And what did D.J. Jones say after the 49ers' 23-17 win over the Cowboys that left Arik Armstead flattered? Let's answer those questions and more in this roundup of notes and quotes from the 49ers' postgame press conferences. * The good and not-so-good for Jimmy G: Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had an up-and-down performance against the Cowboys on Sunday, completing 16-of-25 passes for 172 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception. Garoppolo went 11-for-14 for 133 yards in the first half but cooled down considerably in the second half while having a couple moments that would have proven to be too costly had the Cowboys been able to successfully rally

49ers Notebook: Could 49ers mark end of the road for Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady? Arik Armstead the baller; Deebo's big run; Outcome never in doubt?

There's a lot to unpack from Saturday night's memorable 13-10 win for the San Francisco 49ers over the Green Bay Packers, but some of the biggest news to surface since that game came to an end involves the legendary quarterback the 49ers faced in their latest playoff victory—and the one they could face next week. Keep in mind there are still a lot of unknowns here, including (as of Sunday morning) whether or not the 49ers will even get this opportunity when they battle in the NFC Championship next Sunday (6:40 p.m. ET/3:40 p.m. PT, FOX). But based on what Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said Saturday night to go with what's been reported about Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady over the past 24 hours, it's not incorrect to say the 49ers could conceivably be the team to
